The bell rings and everybody runs out of the class as quick as they can.
It's the fourth lesson of the day, Algebra. I don't know anyone in that class so when everyone is gone I'm left alone walking along the hall.
I really hope I run into Victoria or William during my walk to the cafeteria so I won't have to eat on my own.
No such luck. I get in the line and grab a tray. When it's my turn I take a salad, a bottle of orange juice, a plate of what is I think might be meat and a frozen yoghurt. I guess old habits die hard. I pay for my lunch and get out of the way of the people behind me who do have a table to sit at.
I really have no idea where to go so I just stay put and look around for William or Victoria or whoever I know so I can sit with them, and I see Jake and Zach with their friends, and Nichole, thinking it twice, whoever except them.
It's not that I don't want to sit at a table alone, the problem is that all the tables are occupied by at least two persons so if I sit alone at a table which is occupied I'd have to eat beside people I don't know who I just invaded their space, which is a bit awkward, at least for me.
"Mia!!" Someone shouts near me. I nearly drop my tray. Gosh, whoever just called me has a really high pitch. I turn around and see Abi smiling at me.
"Hi" I smile back.
"Follow me! I saw you standing alone looking for a place to eat, poor thing." she says in her normal volume, which is twice mine, and it's a bit embarrassing because the people surrounding us are starting to stare.
We arrive at a table in which Emily is sitting with another girl who I don't recognize.
"Savannah, this is Mia. She has just moved in to Middletown from LA" Abi introduces me to the girl sitting across Emily.
Savannah looks up at me for a second, smiles weakly and looks back at her food while touching it with her fork. Doesn't seem like she has any intention of eating it.
They are all staring at her as if waiting for another response from her. This is a bit awkward...
"Don't mind her. She's acting a bit weird because she's still getting over her boyfriend breaking up with her" Abi says dismissingly.
"Abi!" Both Emily and Savannah shout at the same time.
"What?" Abi says while rolling her eyes. "I'm just stating the facts, okay?" She says while taking a seat beside Emily. "Seriously though, it's been two weeks Savannah. You really need to move on."
"It's easy to say, but try actually doing it" she mumbles while still looking at her food.
At this point I sit opposite Abi and lay my tray on the table.
"Abi's right. You've been a mess since Flynn broke up with you. I think it's time you go on a date" Emily says.
"I don't need another guy to get over Flynn, you know." Savannah says, rolling her eyes.
"You're right, but giving the fact that it's been two weeks and you haven't progressed at all, I'm going to find you a cute guy to go on a date with" Emily tells Savannah.
"Exactly, it's been two weeks!! How do you expect me to get over Flynn in two bloody weeks?" Savannah says desperately.
