Joe had received a call from his older brother, they hadn't seen each other in a while, so they were catching up. On Friday, Thomas would be celebrating his wedding anniversary and was planning to go to dinner with his wife, but the babysitter had cancelled. After listening to his brother, he realized that there was a way to solve his problem.
"Thomas, can you wait on the line for a moment?".
Thomas told him it was okay, he could wait, and Joe headed for the living room where Taylor was with the cats watching TV.
"Hi Tay. I need to ask you a question" so Taylor turned to pay attention to her.
"This Friday is Thom and Anne's wedding anniversary, the babysitter cancelled on them, can we watch Lily?".
"Of course, let them enjoy their anniversary" Taylor said and Joe smiled as he remembered how much his niece loved Taylor. Joe kissed Taylor to get back to talking to his brother.
"Thomas, Taylor and I can take care of Lily on Friday while you and Anne spend some time alone."
"Oh, okay... Of course, are you really sure you'll be okay? Sometimes she can be very restless" asked Thomas, the call was soon concluded after Thomas made sure Taylor was completely on board with what they were going to do.
For the rest of the week they found themselves looking forward to Friday, Joe loved spending time with his niece, Taylor loved the kids and Lily, of course, adored them.
After Joe and Taylor returned home from work, they set about baby-proofing their home as much as possible.
"Are you ready? Soon that little whirlwind will be here, and I won't be able to kiss you the way I like" she sat on her beloved's lap pressing Joe's lips on hers, the kiss was beginning to intensify until the doorbell rang, they adjusted their clothes a little and opened, there were Thomas, his wife Anne and little Lily, who seeing her uncle began to call him with her little hands being attended by Joe who took her in his arms making her laugh.
"Anything happens you can call, got it?"
"We'll be fine, go and have fun."
While he prepared dinner, Taylor fed the little girl who was amazed with the 3 cats, while they ate the restless Lily watched TV, which only lasted a few minutes, as it seemed to be more fun to chase the cats.
For Meredith, it seemed to be not so much fun, so Lily ended up with a scratch so she started sobbing, Taylor took her in her arms and carried her to the couch where they waited for Joe to return with a bottle, they sat down with Lily in the middle who this time was enjoying the TV
"I want one" Joe whispered to Taylor.
"Sorry honey, I don't think we can find a blue dog that talks" they both laughed
"I want a baby, I haven't stopped thinking about it all afternoon, imagine what they'll be like." The blonde smiled, she couldn't deny that she wanted it too.
"This is what I want, Joe, I want to do this with you."
"I want to do this with you too, in case that hasn't been clear" he kissed her, they left their conversation to turn their attention back to the television.
Bedtime had arrived, Taylor paced around the room as he sang her to sleep. Lily enjoyed being in his arms, she seemed quite lively, she didn't want to sleep. Joe didn't take his eyes off them, he was delighted with what he was seeing. He came back to bed a few minutes later, smiling because he had finally got her to sleep, he put her to bed between the two of them and turned off the light.
"Do you think he'll cry?" She asked quietly.
"I hope not... Anne said she took a bottle in the middle of the night, or sometimes she just sleeps through the night" they wished they could run lucky and sleep through the night, they kissed and soon they both fell asleep too.
Around two in the morning, they were awakened by the baby's crying. Joe sleepily went downstairs to the kitchen to prepare her bottle while Taylor soothed her or tried to, she refused the pacifier, even the cuddling Anne often mentioned didn't work, when she saw Joe return, she hugged him as if her life depended on it.
"Looks like it was just a bad dream," Joe said as he stroked Lily's golden hair.
"You look too good with a baby" Taylor mentioned after having been silent since the little girl had managed to sleep.
"Do you think it's time we started a family?" she recalled the conversation they had had earlier.
"We need to practice for that, you know?"
"Let's practice then." He placed a tender kiss on the crown of the blonde's head, "Would you like to have a boy or a girl?"
"I really don't mind, I would get the same love, but I always pictured myself as a mother of boys, after tonight I think I've changed my mind."
"I always pictured you as a mother of girls, you will be an amazing mother when the time comes."
Lily didn't wake up again until dawn, they weren't used to being awake so early, when they woke up they were in the same position, Joe with the girl on his chest and Taylor hugging him from the side.
While Joe prepared breakfast, Taylor was busy getting her ready for the day, often distracted by seeing Taylor so delicate and affectionate with her niece, she wasn't very good at combing her hair, but she tried. They sat across from each other tasting the delicious French toast, Lily in their arms, taking turns cuddling her.
"How was your night with a baby?"
"We thought it would be more challenging."
"It's good practice for the future, we hope soon to be able to do the same for you guys" Taylor and Joe laughed, soon after they said goodbye to the visitors to collapse surrendered on the couch.
•It is merely fiction so I don't know if Thomas is married, Anne, nor Lily "exist".
