"Enjoy prom, loser," Itoro said as Edward made to leave. "The chief has a shotgun, so be careful."
"Go back to whatever crevice you came from, Toro,"
Itoro gasped dramatically. "I always knew there was a bit of racist in you, Cullen!" Edward threw her a scathing look and she grinned. "Tell Bella I said hi."
Alice perked up at Bella's name. "She says hi back."
"Alice, you know that ruins the whole thing," Itoro complained. Edward smiled before he bid them goodbye and left in his mom car to take Bella to prom. "Alright, I'm off too,"
"Where?" Alice asked. "Town? I can't see your path." She sounded worried, and it would've irritated Itoro if they didn't know why she was so worried.
Itoro shrugged. "I'm indecisive. I'm gonna wander the woods and stuff. Maybe bag a squirrel or something." She vanished and changed into some more casual clothing and stopped when Alice appeared in her bedroom. "Stop worrying, you'll cause more blind spots in your visions."
Alice huffed. "I'll always worry about you, Toto," she said. Itoro nodded, and she knew Alice held guilt in her heart for turning Itoro, being one of her sires. There was a protective streak about ten miles wide that Alice held for Itoro. "Be careful."
"Of course." Itoro pulled her into a hug and vanished after she pulled away.
Itoro ran through the woods for a long while, moving around the trees. The scent of an old deer caught their attention, and they tracked it slowly, almost at a human pace. It would get a mercy death; Itoro could already smell the scent of death lingering on its bones.
She found it quickly, and it stumbled away. A stab of pity twisted their heart, and she shot forwards, snapping its neck so fast it never felt any pain. It fell to the floor, and she sunk her teeth into its neck, teeth piercing the veins and the blood spurted into her mouth. Once she was done and the body was dry of blood, she shifted and wiped her mouth, licking the blood off her fingers before she went about putting the deer at rest – or as much at rest they could manage. The forest would take care of the body, and other animals and insects would help in the decomposition process.
Itoro always felt a sense of guilt when they had to take down an animal. As much as they were all for killing paedophiles, rapists, and other monsters like that, she didn't want to fucking touch them, let alone get close enough for her mouth to touch the skin. It was a conflicting thing, and she struggled with the idea for the last ten years.
The deer dealt with, Itoro went to the river to wash any excess blood from her face. The blood was drying on her hands by the time they got there, and she washed her hands first. The river water was cold, but temperature never bothered her anymore. It was like a sensation. The heat from the oven didn't hurt, but Itoro wasn't going to jam their hand into the flames at the back of it. Fire and decapitation were pretty much the only things that would kill her, and she was smart enough to avoid both. Mostly.
The wolf was back.
It was an irregular occurrence. Sometimes when Itoro was close to the border, the wolf would be there or nearby. Other times he wasn't. The wolf was a busy person, when not in wolf form – presumably. But this time, there was another, smaller wolf with him.
"Hi," Itoro said, squinting at them as the sun hit them and their skin started to shine. "Shit, hold on." Itoro shifted and move down into the shadows and the glittering effect stopped. "That shit is the bane of my life."
The bigger wolf huffed, and the smaller one retreated. Out came a young boy, a few years younger than Itoro was before they were turned. "Bella Swan needs to stay away. Turn her away."
