Top Secret Spies

Lilith was never a fan of change. She nearly threw up when Lionel moved out, and he had to remind her multiple times that he would visit every Saturday. Change was scary.

Lilith didn't like being scared.

When the news reached her department, she vomited in her trash bin. Who knew Jamie Tartt leaving would affect her so greatly? They had a one night stand, so what?

Plus the random hallway chats. And that one time she nearly impaled him with a flying figurine. The understanding between the two. The boot room comfort she had so desperately needed.

But surely all of this wouldn't cause her stomach to lurch at the knowledge of him being gone, right?

Wrong. So insufferably wrong.

And on top of all of that mess? She was 90% certain that Roy had feelings for someone else.

Was she paranoid? Most definitely. But you know who else gets insanely paranoid? Her new right hand man, Coach Beard, who had caught her sneaking around the building and trailing said boyfriend. He didn't ask any questions, just looked between her and Roy and nodded in understanding before crouching next to her.

The two were now peeking out from the wall connecting to the training room hallway when they spotted Roy stopping in his tracks to banter with none other than Keeley Jones. Beard gasped quietly, as to not give up their spying whereabouts, while Lilith watched on with a cooled expression.

They were flirting.

And Lilith was an idiot for not seeing it before.

It wasn't as if Roy mentioned her a lot, but she knew that Keeley got under his skin from time to time. It was mostly because she had been dating Jamie, his sworn enemy, but now?

Now it just looked like a really good enemies to lovers situation.

Before the two could part ways and notice the top secret spies on their trail, Lilith turned tail and booked it all the way back to her own department. This was not good, not good at all. Her hands were shaky, her breath was uneven, and she was about to freak the hell out.

Where was her boot room comfort when she needed it?

-

Unbeknownst to her, however, was that Beard knew exactly what she needed and it wasn't Jamie Tartt. His group text didn't explain much, just to meet in Lilith's office as soon as humanly possible. As he walked at a leisurely pace after the upset woman, he could soon hear fast breaths and heavy footfalls as Ted came sprinting down the hallway. He was out of breath as he caught up with Beard, "I've never ran so fast in my gosh dang life, is it really a code red?" Beard nodded silently, too busy stewing on the situation to make words. Ted's hands went to rub his face, already exhausted from the Jamie ordeal, and now worried that his dear Chilly Lily would either become a super villain or disappear completely.

Ted Lasso wanted neither of those things.

Nathan was a bit slower than Ted, and looked a bit more scared at the premise of entering the financial department, "I've heard it's so cold in her office that it feels like a morgue. Is that true, Ted?" The coach shook his head, "No, no of course not, Nate. I just recommended wearing one of those goofy lookin' Christmas sweaters when you go in there. So you stay warm and remember that happiness exists." Beard pointed at him in agreement as Nathan shivered. He didn't own a 'goofy' Christmas sweater, but he was sure he would stop and get one on his way home later that day.

Higgins met them at her office door, having come from the opposite direction from a different department. He greeted them warmly before nodding towards the door, "Shall we?" The three men nodded back at him warily, bracing themselves for what would be on the other side of that door.

What they weren't expecting was for Lilith to be actually working. At a time like this? This almost terrified them more.

Ted and Beard, however, noticed as she moved papers around on her desk that her hands were still shaking. They shared a look before fully entering the office, "Hey there, Chilly!" His smile faltered as she continued working, ignoring his presence completely, "Uh- so Beard here thought it would be a good idea to call a spontaneous Diamond Dogs meeting. Now what that entails is-"

"You all get together and talk about the problems in your life and come up with solutions." She cut him off, lifting her head just enough to glance at the rooms other occupants, "Roy said it looked like his worst nightmare." The four men nodded in agreement. They knew where they stood in that man's thoughts.

"Are there any other Roy related things you'd care to talk about?" They all leaned forward expectantly, waiting for the cookie to crumble. Lilith narrowed her eyes at them. But then her eyes filled with tears as she lowered her head into her hands, shoulders shaking and muffled sobs escaping. Alarmed looks spread across the room as they all scrambled for something to say or do to cease her cries.

Before any of them could come up with a solution, she lifted her head and ran her hands down her face, "I have to let him go. I can't let him lead me on when he really just wants to be with her." She shook her head, further legitimizing her deed, "It's just not fair. She's so fucking pretty. And I can't be mad at either of them because look at them!" Her hands flew out in front of her in exclamation and the men nodded along.

Beard stood stoically to the side, steam practically coming out of his ears, "I can kill him. Rolith can be avenged." He looked quite serious about it, too.

"Hold on, now! I thought we were goin' with Rilith for the ship name?" Ted butted in, halting Beard's master plan before waving his arms as if to dismiss that thought, "And you can't kill our captain, you just can't. Especially after losing one of our aces." Lilith held back sickness at the mentioning of Jamie at a time like this, "Maybe you should just talk to Roy, maybe you're reading the situation wrong?" He directed his suggestion to the distressed woman who shook her head in defiance.

"Wait, who do you think Roy has feelings for?" Nate questioned. They had walked into this impromptu meeting blindly and him and Higgins were incredibly lost. Or so he thought.

Everyone looked back at him in confusion before they all spoke in unison, "Keeley." Which led him to release a quiet 'Ohhh, right, right, continue please.'

They were going to continue, hell, Lilith could have poured her whole heart out right there just for some emotional support from grown men calling themselves the Diamond Dogs. If her office door had not opened at that moment, she would have told them how scared she was to lose someone.

A collective wince spread across them, except for Beard who glared, as Roy himself walked in.

His eyes scanned over the biggest gathering he'd ever seen in Lilith's office, pausing on coach Beard and finally landing on his girlfriend. She was furiously wiping her face, all chances of a heart-to-heart vanished. He had never seen her this emotional, and he had definitely never had Beard stare him down like that before.

Roy had obviously done something terribly wrong.

"Do you need me to leave?"

Roy could have said anything else, really. Are you alright? Do I need to kill someone? Do you need a hug? But, did she want him to leave? Who in the hell asks that while their girlfriend is very obviously in distress over something they did?

"Do you want to leave me?"

The coaches, Higgins and Nate inched towards the door to leave, not wanting to stay to watch their favorite ship sink. Lilith nodded them along, letting them know she'd be okay. She'd be okay, right?

Roy didn't look confused. He didn't look hurt or angry at the question. Lilith knew that he knew that she knew, and she felt like she was in that one episode of Friends. God, she wished she looked as good as Jennifer Anniston.

He looked contemplative, and that was really all the answer she needed.

Next chapter we get to see a little bit of Jamie and Lilith gets to process everything Roy related!

I hate to break them up but I also love it? Does that make sense?
