As I made my way through corridors of my warehouse, the weight of the day's events hung heavy on my shoulders. Giovani's words echoed in my mind, a reminder of the dangerous game we played, the fine line between justice and vengeance.

"Boss, Ethan is in the basement, tied up. I didn't kill him," Giovani's voice broke through my thoughts, pulling me back to the present moment.

I stopped in my tracks, turning to face him with a furrowed brow. "Why?" I asked firmly, making it sound more like an order, not a question.

Giovani smirked, a glint of mischief dancing in his eyes. "Because I know how much you would like to do that yourself," he replied cryptically, his words a mirror reflecting the darker impulses that lurked within me.

I nodded in acknowledgment, though his words struck a chord deeper than I cared to admit. "Alright, I'll be there soon. Make sure to wake him up," I instructed before continuing on my way, my steps measured and purposeful.

Entering my office, I closed the door behind me, shutting out the noise of the warehouse and the weight of the world beyond its walls. Alone in the quiet of the room, I allowed myself a moment of respite, a chance to gather my thoughts before facing the confrontation waiting for me in the basement.

[---]

At 5 pm, the hour of reckoning arrived. I descended into the depths of the basement, the air thick with the metallic tang of blood and the acrid stench of fear. It was a scent I had grown accustomed to over the years, a grim reminder of the world I inhabited—a world where violence and retribution were currency.

Ethan lay bound before me, his eyes wide with fear as I approached, a predator stalking its prey.

Without hesitation, I reached for the knife at my side, the weight of it familiar in my hand. With a swift motion, I drove the blade into Ethan's thigh, his scream echoing off the cold concrete walls.

"That's for harassing my girl," I growled, my voice laced with a venomous edge. I didn't wait for a response before delivering another blow, a powerful punch to his face that sent him reeling.

"And that's for being a dumb asshole," I added, my fist connecting with satisfying force.

I knew I couldn't afford to get bloodied today, not when I had promised Isabella I would be safe.

Poor girl doesn't know that her daddy is actually a dangerous mafia boss, but it's only for her own safety. The less she knows, the better it is.

"Giovani, give me the .40 GC MD2 gun," I commanded, my voice clipped and authoritative.

Without hesitation, Giovani complied, placing the weapon in my outstretched hand.

With practiced ease, I raised the gun, the weight of it heavy in my grasp. Without wasting another moment, I pulled the trigger, the sound of gunfire reverberating through the basement as the bullet found its mark.

Ethan's body slumped lifelessly to the ground, his eyes vacant and unseeing. The deed was done, the score settled in blood. And though the darkness within me rejoiced in the act of vengeance, a part of me couldn't help but mourn the innocence lost, the price paid in pursuit of justice.

There was no room for sentimentality in my world, only the harsh reality of survival and the unwavering resolve to protect those I loved, no matter the cost.
