I watched Isabella sleep, her breathing finally steadying as she found solace in the temporary escape of unconsciousness.

Her face, still marred by bruises and cuts, stirred a deep, protective fury within me.

She didn’t deserve any of this. She was my light, my reason for enduring the darkness of my world.

Once I was certain she was deeply asleep, I gently pulled the blanket over her and kissed her forehead. Then, I quietly left the bedroom, closing the door behind me. The calmness of the room quickly evaporated as I made my way downstairs, the gravity of the evening's events pulling me back into the harsh reality of my life.

In the living room, the lifeless body of Jacob Jon'Silvar lay sprawled on the floor, a grim reminder of the violence that had invaded my home. I clenched my jaw, my mind already working through the steps needed to clean up this mess.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Giovani's number. He answered on the first ring, his voice tense. "Lorenzo?"

"Giovani, we have a situation. Jacob Jon'Silvar is dead in my living room," I said, keeping my voice low and controlled.

"Shit. I'll get the cleanup crew over immediately. Are you and Isabella okay?" Giovani asked, concern lacing his words.

"She took a beating, but she'll be fine," I replied, glancing back towards the bedroom. "Make sure the crew is discreet. I don't want her waking up to this."

"Understood. We'll be there in ten minutes," Giovani assured me before hanging up.

I paced the living room, my mind racing with thoughts of betrayal and retribution. Jacob had once been a friend, but greed and ambition had twisted him into a threat.

I couldn’t afford any more surprises. My enemies were growing bolder, and I needed to tighten my grip on my operations.

Soon enough, there was a soft knock at the door.

I opened it to find Giovani and a few trusted men, their faces grim and determined. "Let's get this done quickly," I said, stepping aside to let them in.

They moved with practiced efficiency, wrapping Jacob’s body in a tarp and cleaning up the bloodstains with industrial-grade cleaners.

As they worked, I pulled Giovani aside. "We need to find out who else knew about Jacob's plan. He didn't act alone."

Giovani nodded, his expression serious. "I’ll start the interrogation first thing in the morning. We'll get to the bottom of this, Lorenzo. But you need to be careful. Whoever's behind this won't stop with Jacob."

"I know," I said, running a hand through my hair. "Keep me updated on everything. And make sure Isabella is protected at all times. I can't let anything happen to her again."

Giovani placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We'll keep her safe, Lorenzo. You have my word."

As they finished up, I took a moment to look around the living room, ensuring that all traces of the evening's violence had been erased.

Satisfied, I walked them to the door. "Thank you, Giovani. I’ll see you tomorrow."

With a final nod, Giovani and the crew left, leaving me alone in the quiet house. I locked the door and made my way back upstairs, checking on Isabella once more.

She was still asleep, her face peaceful despite the bruises. I sat beside her, gently brushing a strand of hair from her forehead.

"You're safe now, bella," I whispered, my voice breaking the silence of the room. "I promise I'll protect you, no matter what."
