I sighed and inhaled the refreshing scent of pine, as I rode on my horse through the forest toward Wildspire. My stomach growled and I frowned in disappointment that I'd been disturbed from my at home vacation hours I'd specifically requested not to be disturbed from. I'd been spending the past two weeks drinking and getting myself high off some Balien witch potions I'd specially ordered from a merchant in the market. Then I got the interruption from a nervous looking apprentice that Ivan my supervisor had been training. That's how I was stuck now, hunting one of the kingdoms biggest fugitives as a wanted man myself.
"Sorry to inturrupt your vacation hours Alain, b-but Ivan said he wanted you on a top p-priority assignment a-as soon as possible." The nervous looking apprentice flinched when I turned my angry eyes at him, as if I might gut him on the spot, and at the moment the appeal was starting to get a bit high.
"Tell Ivan to fuck off, to handle shit himself for once." The apprentice's mouth flopped open at the audacity I held to talk about the leader of the biggest assassin's guild in Gordina, no one would dare talk to him in such a manner. I, however could get away with it, simply for being his star pupil who was second in command, and was going to inherit the guild.
The apprentice stood there dumbfounded with the stupidest expression on his face that I was debating throwing a glass bottle into it to get it off him, "Are you going to stand there like an idiot and disturb my peace, get lost."
The apprentice closed his mouth, and opened it again hesitating to say something else. "Fuck, if you have something else to say, spit it out."
Once again the apprentice flinched and I was already reaching for a glass bottle when the next words spilled out of his mouth. "The King and Queen have set a bounty worth ten years of our work to kill a rouge Dragon native guard who betrayed them at the Springtime ball last week." My face relaxed and I set the bottle back down, considering his words, and he continued, "Ivan says it's the same target that the noblemen tried to eliminate, and wanted you to take the job."
I frowned, of course Ivan wanted me to do his dirty work. It irked me even more because I refused to take the job to kill her in the first place because Ivan knew my morals. He fucking knew I didn't take any jobs on children, slaves, or Dragon natives. I didn't do them because I was a Dragon native myself. It's the reason I was second in command, I held the ability to heal myself and others, and blur my physical form into shadows. He fucking knew I wouldn't lay a finger on my people, even if I would kill anyone else.
I stood up and the apprentice ducked behind the door and I scowled, "Get my cloak. We're going to Ivan."
I slammed open the door to his office and Ivan didn't even looked disturbed, only calmly looked up from his paperwork, "Yes, Alain?"
I walked over to his desk and gripped his face in one of my hands, pinching his cheeks, "I told you I don't take hits on Dragon natives, didn't I make myself clear?"
Ivan chuckled, and put his hand over mine in a caress, a reminder of what we've once shared a lifetime ago, soft panting, wet slapping, pliable skin, and hot tight bodies pressed close together, united in an animalistic lustful pleasure. Him moaning my name as I bit harshly onto his neck claiming him, as years of being abused by him were finally coming to light as I forced this man for the first time in my life to submit to me and not the other way around.
It seemed that Ivan knew where my mind had wandered as he smirked at me, and I flinched, he continued his seductive offer, with an invitation behind it that I ignored. "I knew you'd be apprehensive about this, but Alain, ten years worth of fortune in our line of work can finally allow you to retire." He looked up at me under lowered lashes, "We could retire together, no more killing, just lead the guild, you and I." I had never found the courage in all of my years of working for Ivan to tell him that I didn't want to rule the guild, I wanted to escape it.
