Valerie Bishop was many things, and it would surprise people once they found out what half of those things were. And there was a whole list.

She wasn't a mystery, simply privacy driven. She loathed when her hobbies, talents, or memories were mentioned to other people because they were special and dear to her, she wanted to keep them hidden and protected because they mattered. So she stayed quiet and enjoyed her peace, lonely wasn't the word she would use because she had one person in her life that was truly worth it.

Valerie would always believe that her life truly started when she met a girl, Jessica Hammond. Her best friend, her soulmate, her happiness, they always believed they needed each other and that was enough. But love and affection had cruel ways of sneaking into someone's life.

Romantically, platonically, or even with family, each love was different and when they entered your life in a sudden way... Well it changes things.

And that's what would happen to Valerie, it would all change before she could blink.

The knocking on her door had already ruined her morning. "Noooooo!" She groaned grabbing her pillow covering her head already knowing who it was and why.

Number one, Valerie was not a morning person.

"Come on, little bishop!" They sang teasingly on the other side of the door. The annoying voice that sometimes plagues her nightmares as her brain dreads the mornings when that voice would ruin her slumber.

"Go away." She groaned squeezing her eyes shut.

"This is your fault," The door clicked open as the person entered her room. Her voice became clearer. "You're the one who befriend me." Her voice more mature, which was stupid considering she was only a year older.

"Can I unfriend you?" Valerie asked innocently still covering her head with the pillow and her body wrapped in her blankets.

Jessica scoffed and Valerie doesn't have to see her to know that she rolled her eyes practically enjoying torturing her so early. "No, your mom was called in which means I'm now in charge. You know why?" She said in a tone of mockery.

"Yes, Jessica, I know why. You're old, ancient, a whole fossil who should be six feet under and let the young live their lives." Her voice was muffled under all the layers as she was cocooned in.

Jessica chuckled. "Sarcasm is my thing, Val. Now get up, we have school. It's your fault for staying up reading your books." She ripped off the blanket grabbing Valerie's foot starting to drag her.

Number two, books aren't what keep her up at night, comics are. She's a comic nerd with a whole collection.

"Jessica!" She gasped as the sunlight hit her eyes. "No, please don't do this."

"You know this would mostly be you to me but sadly you have a test. We both know I would want to ditch but you being you," She trailed off ripping the pillow from Valerie's grasp making eye contact with honey brown eyes who gave her a light glare. "Will sulk if I go through with it and then you'll pout blaming me for missing this test. So get up, my dad is outside waiting for us." Valerie whined as Jessica grabbed her wrist gently pulling her up to sit.
