New beginnings

*****

I PULLED my suitcase with me as I walked the busy streets of New York passing by crowds of people who held serious looks on their faces as they passed by me nearly running me over, I scoff at the man who bumped into my shoulder and turned around to give me a smug look as if I had been the one who had bumped into him, before I could even think about mentally rolling my eyes at the jerk I wince as the pain in both my feet grew, I had been walking all day in six inch Louis Vuitton heels and to say I was in pain was an understatement and I was sure if I walked another mile I would collapse, but it was clearly obvious my prayers had been answered because a few steps more and I came to view with a beautiful cafe that had smelled heavenly and I hadn't even stepped inside.

When I entered I was greeted by an old lady who held a warm smile on her face and seemed to be the only one running the shop, I walk towards the counter and greet her with a warm smile

"Hello, I'm new in town I was wondering what's your favorite item on the menu?" I asked
"I love your accent dear where are you from?" The old lady asked with an intrigued expression on her face "thank you so much! I'm from London " I say with a smile but before I could continue the conversation the lady presented me with a blueberry muffin that smelled amazing, my stomach growled and I had realized I hadn't ate since I left London which was a little over 12 hours ago, come to think of it even before I left I had only had a granola bar so I was starving, I thanked the kind lady again and took a seat near the window and took a bite of the muffin and let out a soft moan as the warm blue berries melted on my tongue

I think I may have found my new happy place I look over my shoulder and smile at the old lady who was already wearing a warming smile on her face I quickly returned the gesture showing my thanks for the delicious pastry , as I continued to enjoy my muffin I pull out my phone that I hadn't checked since I landed and to my surprise I was instantly greeted with 20 unread messages from "Levi" on my screen overlapping each other one by one, the most recent message read "I'm coming to pick you up stay where you are."
I roll my eyes reading the messages he had sent prior and turned my phone off sighing at how overwhelming my brother was already being and I hadn't even been in the states longer than 2 hours, the message he had sent was 20 minutes ago so he should be here soon, I crumble up my muffin wrapper and throw it away in the nearest garbage disposal, I walked back up to the counter and thanked the kind lady who's name I had gotten on my way out, I also got her contact information since I noticed she was very short staff and since this was going to be my new home I'd need a job, I saved her contact name as Margaret and clicked on a notification that popped up on my screen not long after from my friend Ivy

"Bitch come back, shit is already hitting the fan since you've been gone" I read the message and laughed quickly texting her back and shaking my head at her crazy behavior I jumped as I heard a loud honk and quickly stood up to look for who's making that horrid noise with their car, but not to my surprise I look up and see my brother Levi who had stood there with a wide smile on his face, before I could cuss him out for scaring the life out of me he quickly wrapped his arms around me and pulled me in a tight embrace I instantly hugged him back and laughed at his attempt to tickle me on my neck like he used to do when we were younger.

I felt him pull back and reach behind me to grab my suitcase which he took no time to throw them in the back of his trunk, "be gently with my stuff you prick" I said climbing into his jeep, he held his hand on his heart and smiled as he started to back out of the parking lot he had parked in "I've never been called a prick before I don't even know how to react" I laughed and looked out the window taking in the city that I had completely overlooked since I've been here, it's extremely busy but the buildings are beautiful and filled with so much lights and people I took in the air and closed my eyes , I had been so consumed with the view that I hadn't realized that I had drifted off to sleep.
