POV - Kana

Trigger warning: Mentions of self harm

I paced back and forth as more yells erupted from the room. It was 3:09 a.m, Aunty Dao's water had broken. I had never gotten up so fast in my life. I yawned, still pacing as Arak had my earbuds in while playing something on my phone. Another yell let out followed after a cry of a baby; I smiled at the loud wail that got closer and closer as the nurse brought him out. I followed her till she put a little band around the baby's wrist. Right after I left the baby in the nurse's care and headed back to my aunty. She was being cleaned up and a trail of water went from her eyes to her chin.

"How ya' feeling?" I asked softly, kneeling by her side. She looked at me, sighing.

"Like I just pushed out a baby..." She chuckled before coughing, I furrowed my brows. I looked at the doctors who were rushing to do things. Why is she coughing? She shouldn't be coughing. Why hasn't she stopped? Make it stop! I yelled in my mind, though I really wanted to yell it to the doctors.

"Aunty..?" I whispered, she was getting paler as the nurse yelled that she was losing blood - too much blood No. No no no no no. This isn't happening. Right? I questioned as tears filled my eyes.

"Sweety, it'll be alright." She cooed, "Don't worry I'll power through just like I always have, and when we get back home I'll make some Laab, m'kay?" Her hand rested against my cheek and I nodded, leaning into her touch.

"Miss, you need to leave." A nurse ushered me out of the room as they closed the door. I let more tears fall from my eyes as I fell to the ground covering my mouth. Little footsteps made it over and I saw my brother's blue shoes.

"Kana... what's wrong?" I shook my head, hugging him.

"Everything is going to be okay, alright?" I said, my breath uneven. He nodded, but I knew that he knew something was wrong.

...

After a while, we were back on the seats, Arak was sleeping next to me as the door opened and the nurses and doctors came out. They disbanded leaving the head doctor in front of me.

I stood looking at him expectantly, "She's okay, right..?" I held my breath as he shook his head. My eyes widened before gliding to the room seeing her lay there, her lower half covered in blood. Tears filled my eyes as I looked at Arak who started to stir awake, then I remembered the baby. I turned back to the doctor reading his name tag. Dr. Chen

"Did she give a name?" I asked, I knew she had a top two, it was between Mongkut or Pabok. She hasn't- hadn't given me a final choice in the name.

"She had told us - me - that she had indeed picked a name." I nodded urging him to continue as I felt arms wrap around my leg. I placed my hand on Arak's head as Dr. Chen continued, "The child's name is Pabok Mongkut Bun." I smiled through tears, Of course she made one name a middle name. I nodded.

"How long will he be staying here?"

"Well we'd like to run a check up and a few tests, but Ms. Bun will be... moved down to the morgue after you say your goodbye's." I stayed silent only nodding, he turned on his heel and went back into the room. I looked down at the ten year old clinging onto me.

"Arak, aunty is," I paused not knowing how to explain this to a little kid, "well she's with Mom now, and I- we should say goodbye. But it's okay if you don't want to, she'll understand." I hope He looked up at me.

"I wanna go." He said, I sighed waiting for Dr. Chen to come out. Once he did he turned to me, telling me what he did before we went in.

"I tried to clean up as quickly as I could, though I couldn't clean everything I did the best I could." I nodded as he stepped aside letting us in, I grabbed Arak's hand. Sadness filled my eyes as I saw her there, breathless and unmoving. I bit my lip slowly walking to her side I was once at. A black blanket covered her from her armpits to her feet hiding away the blood that was probably soaking it. I sat down in a chair placed there, pulling Arak onto my lap.
