Y/n's POV:

I run down the empty halls of Hollywood Arts, rushing to make it to class. I'm already fifteen minutes late... to second period. If only I had remembered to set my alarm. Instead I woke up halfway through first period, and still managed to be late to this one.

I pull open the door a bit too hastily and end up stumbling over, my face smacking the ground, eating shit. Fuck, that hurts. I groan, feeling everyone's eyes turn to me, disturbed by my outburst. A few chuckles are heard throughout the room. God, this is mortifying.

I look up, only to see Jade West with the biggest grin planted across her face. Of course, she, of all people, had to see that. I have no doubt she'll be teasing me about it later, sharing my little mishap with the rest of the group.

I get back on my feet, taking a seat in my usual spot. "Your late Miss Y/l/n," Mr Tanner states unimpressed.

"Late to second period, skipped first. You know Mr Tanner, I think you should give her a detention," Jade chirps in, looking over at me with that familiar devilish smirk. My eyes narrow, though I know there's no point, I could never intimidate the Jade West.

"Sorry, I didn't realise you'd miss me so much," I quip back, my voice laced with sarcasm. It's her turn to narrow her eyes, except she's actually got the whole intimidation thing figured out. I want to shrink back into my seat at her pointed gaze, but don't react, knowing I can't reveal just how intimidated I actually am.

"I'm so sorry, I forgot to set my alarm and woke up late," I apologise, my attention back on the teacher before me.

"Tisk, tisk, tisk." Jade taps her tongue to the roof of her mouth, shaking her head with exaggerated disappointment. I ignore her.

"Sorry Miss Y/l/n, but Jades right. I need to give you a detention, it's not the first time this week. When you get back from spring break I expect you to have sorted it out," he says, handing me the detention sheet.

"Yes sir," I sigh defeated, grabbing the pink slip.

The day goes by torturously slow. It's the last day before spring break. I'm so excited to relax and have a break from school... and Jade, who despite my best efforts, does not seem to like me. The bell rings for the last class of the semester. I'm actually kind of excited for this class, it's Sikowitz's. He always has some sort of odd assignment, but at least it's always entertaining.

"Take a seat students so I may explain your assignment for spring break," Sikowitz says cheerily. Groans echo throughout the classroom.

"As you know, you get two weeks off for spring break. During these weeks you will be paired up with one other person. You may not be more than six metres away from your partner or you will fail," a bunch of hands raise, "yes Andre?"

"What if we're going away for spring break?" he asks.

"Then you must take your partner with you," Sikowitz simply states.

"But-" Andre starts, before being interrupted.

"No more questions, let me explain. In this time you will delve into a more profound understanding of your selected partner. By the end of the break each of you will have composed a song inspired by your partner. Your performances will be recorded and sent off to be judged by Neutronium Records. The song they deem most fitting for what they're looking for will be given the opportunity to sign a record deal with the company and will be performing at the Platinum Music Awards as their debut performance!" The class echoes with excitement.

"So we could get a real, actual record deal?" I say in disbelief.

"Correct," Sikowitz confirms.

"Hold on, are we just going to skip over the fact that we can't be more than six metres away from our partners?" Jade questions, repulsed by the idea.
