Jade's POV:
Ring, ring! Ring ring! The insistent buzzing of my phone abruptly wakes me, causing an angry groan to escape my tender lips. I quickly silence it, not wanting to disturb Y/n. God knows she'll kill me; although she is pretty entertaining when she's grumpy.
Ring, ring! Ring, ring! It rings again, pissing me off to no end. Who the hell is calling me at eight in the morning?! I'm going to commit some serious acts of violence if they don't have a good reason!
"Who is it?!" I yell impatiently into the phone, causing Y/n to stir. Shit. I get up and stand out side her door to prevent waking her.
"Morning Jade, it's Amber" my stepmother tells me cheerily. Of course it's fucking Amber.
"Why are you calling me at..." I pause as I check the time, letting out another groan upon seeing it, "...8:07 in the morning?!" I finish grumpily.
"Believe it or not but 8:07 is a very normal time for people to be awake in the morning, you're lucky I didn't call at 6:00 when I woke up," she tells me in a playful manner.
"I don't care what time you woke up, I care that I'm awake thanks to your stupid call!" I yell harshly into the phone.
"You're so dramatic," she says unfazed, used to my spells of anger. You'd think, knowing me so well, she'd be smarter than to call me so early in the morning. I can just feel her eyes rolling through the phone.
"Whatever," I roll my eyes as I lean against the wall. "So why did you call me?" I ask, my anger coming to a simmer.
"Well..." she starts, sounding as though she's about to tell me something I don't want to hear, "...we all miss you, and you've been gone a few days now-"
"No, you miss me," I point out, knowing my father couldn't care less if he tried.
"No, your father and brother miss you too," she assures me.
"Okay, maybe I could potentially believe that Ty misses me, but my father? There's no way," I say snidely.
"Your father misses you too, Jade, he just doesn't show it," she tries to convince me. I chuckle dryly at her comment.
"He doesn't show any emotion other than anger. I don't know how he coerced you into getting married - you or any of the others - but eventually you'll realise he's incapable of change and will leave - just like the others," I tell her spitefully. There's a long silence on the other end of the phone. I bite my lip in anticipation of her response.
"You know, you're so cruel sometimes," she says, her hurt evident.
"Yeah, well, you can blame him for that," I sigh, sinking into the wall. I can just picture her head shake disappointedly at my response.
"I was only calling to tell you, you need to come home today," she informs me, "before lunch," she adds.
"What?! No!" I scream outraged into the phone, "I told you about the assignment, I'm staying at Y/l/n's until next Friday," I tell her.
"Too bad," she responds, unwavering.
"I can't be more than six metres from her," I protest.
"So bring her here," she calmly suggests.
"No!" I yell hastily.
"Well, fail your assignment then, because you're going to be here before 12:00," she tells me, "and if you're not I'll have you're father come and get you and you won't have your car for the rest of spring break," she threatens.
