𖤐Some context for the beginning...𖤐
-Y/n only addresses Scaramouche as the Balladeer, since that's all she knows from serving under him.
-This was written in Version 4.6, so any lore in future versions that might make this story inaccurate was not known while writing this.
-Since I don't know what the Fatui base looks like due to Snezhnaya not being released yet, anything going on at a Fatui sight will be in a stronghold in Snezhnaya.

It's been about three weeks now, since I was promoted to Harbinger status by the Tsaritsa. I still remember it- two months after La Signora passed. There wasn't much of a funeral for her, after all, the Fatui are known for their cold demeanor. But there was still clearly an aura of gloom in the air. I suspect many of the harbingers do miss her, they just don't want to admit defeat by the Shogun. Many of them said their goodbyes to her with words along the lines of "Don't get chopped up next time" or "Serves you right, honestly." I never knew her personally, I never really served under her. I mostly served under the Balladeer, and now I'm one of his peers...

[Three weeks ago]

I wait outside of the Balladeer's quarters, awaiting any orders.

"Y/n. Come in here, I have to speak with you." He says from inside the room. I hesitantly step inside, looking at him as he sits at his desk. Capitano stands beside him, facing me.

"The Tsaritsa has taken notice of your work. She finds it extraordinary. To reward you for your loyalty to the Fatui, she will be promoting you from a Harbinger's subordinate to a low ranking Harbinger. I will personally train you for combat alongside the Knave, and you will begin mission training with the Balladeer, here. I take it since you're used to serving under him, working alongside him will be nothing too unfamiliar." Capitano says, his deep metallic voice ringing though the air.

I'm being promoted? To a Harbinger rank Fatui member? This is unexpected, I've only served the Tsaritsa for about 2 years...most of my peers have been working longer than that. Wouldn't they want someone more experienced to take on the role of Harbinger? I stand there in shock as the two of them look at me expectantly.

"...Harbinger?" I manage to stutter out, obviously confused.

"That's what he said, isn't it? Listen better, repeating what we've said won't work well under pressure. Maybe you do need more time in training." The Balladeer says sharply, shooting me a glare.

"Now, now, Balladeer. I'm sure she heard just fine, give her a moment to process it all." Capitano says, before turning to me. "Of course, you can decline if needed...but you're going to be the Eighth Harbinger, taking La Signora's place due to her untimely passing. Go take a day to process this and pack your things, since you'll be relocated in La Signora's old chambers, down the hall from here. The others can help you find your way around that part of the stronghold, since their chambers are in the area too. I expect them to welcome you and assist you with anything you man need help with." He says, shooting a glance at the Balladeer. The Balladeer just rolls his eyes and waves me off.

I nod to them, leaving the room and returning to the quarters that I share with four other Fatui skirmishers and mages. I lay on my bed, thinking about everything I was just told, exhausting myself by replaying it over in my head. Eventually I fall asleep, my eyelids drooping shut, knowing that tomorrow, I'll be packing my things to move to my new sleeping chambers...with the Harbingers.

[Present time]

I've become familiar with the new sleeping quarters at this point. La Signora's previous chambers are twice the size of the room I shared with my peers a few weeks ago, with a tall, arching ceiling, and a bed and windows with matching drapes. It's comfortable, though a bit cold, but I've gotten used to it by now. The Harbinger's lounge is just down the hall, and so are the Balladeer's chambers, which I wouldn't have expected from first glance. Capitano and Il Dottore's chambers aren't in this area, they're next to the Tsaritsa's, due to their high ranks, although I'm pretty sure the others just bullied Dottore out of here. He's not well liked, even though the Fatui are cold, they look down upon unnecessary cruelty, which Dottore seems to cause quite often.
