I wake up, my eyes opening to let in the rays of light that find their way through the wooden planks of the small shelter. I jolt, as I suddenly become very aware of a presence right next to me. Slowly, I look down at my body, my eyes widening. My legs are intertwined with two others, those of The Balladeer. One of his arms is pinned under me, while the other lays over my side. I turn, looking behind me, my eyes meeting his chest and flicking up to his face. He's halfway under me, looking down at me with his usual irritated look, although, somehow... it's slightly softer.
"Morning." He says, sounding annoyed.
"Did you...sleep at all?" I ask, hesitantly.
"No."
"You were like this the whole night? Awake??"
"Yes. You wouldn't stop twitching, and as soon as I tried to move, you rolled on top of me, pest."
"...sorry. I didn't mean to." I murmur, yawning. I stretch, my arms reaching above my head as my back arches just slightly, my legs trembling a bit from the effort before I relax with a soft sigh, my body more awake.
"Don't do that on me! What're you trying to do, take advantage of this situation?!" Scara exclaims, sounding almost flustered. He pushes me off of him, and rolls his eyes, although I can see a faint blush decorating his cheeks. I smirk a little, before sitting up.
"Sorry, jeez..." I mutter, looking down to see that i'm still wearing the big shirt and small shorts that I slept in. I walk over to the bathroom with some new clothes, and begin to change. After a few minutes, once I've changed and gotten ready for the day, I step out, seeing the Balladeer put his shirt on. He turns to me, putting on his hat.
"C'mon. It's time for your first Chasm patrol."
I nod, following him as he leaves the small shack, walking around the rings of the Chasm, the small cliffs encircling the gaping hole in the center. Our feet meet the cool stone with a crunch, the golden grass and similarly beige foliage that covers the rocks, finding a way to live on the barren surface, devoid of soil to root in. I look at it, thinking, as we walk, until I suddenly feel a hand grab my arm, yanking me back to reality.
"Hey, dumb fuck! What the hell are you doing? Trying to get yourself killed?" The Balladeer snaps at me. I see that I was uncomfortably close to the edge of the cliff we walk along, so much so that the next step I would've taken would likely have landed twenty feet lower than where we stand right now. I back away, looking at him apologetically.
"Sorry... I was lost in thought."
"Well, you're on new terrain. It's best to be aware of your surroundings, especially since you're a fragile human. Don't be so mindless next time, I'm not carrying you back to Snezhnaya with a broken leg."
"..." I roll my eyes at the term 'fragile human', but dismiss it for now. "...thanks. I guess. Anyway, where were we going?"
"Here." He points to a deep blue tent with golden embellishments on it, a long with the fatui sigil, a sign of the Tsaritsa. I nod, weeing a few skirmishers pace around the area around the tent, keeping an eye out. One of them spots us, and raises his guard, but recognizes the Balladeer, and sets down his weapon. We walk up to the tents, and begin to discuss.
"How has everything been running?" Scaramouche asks one of the skirmishers. "Mining progress, any attacks..."
"It's been going well, sir. We've made exchanges with the Treasure hoarders in the area, but they don't appear hostile. A few weeks ago, after Master Childe left, we were attacked by a juvenile Geovishap. It was too young to cause much damage, and it was defeated easily. However, there were several more sightings, and the Treasure hoarders have noticed it too. There may be a den of them nearby." One of the Skirmishers reply.
