Nyx turned on her heel, her heart pounding in her chest as she made her way through the labyrinthine corridors of the mansion. Her steps were swift and determined, every fiber of her being focused on leaving Charles and the painful memories he dredged up behind her. But she could hear him following, his footsteps echoing angrily off the stone walls.
"Nyx, stop, you're not getting away from me this easy." Charles's voice was harsh, edged with a desperation that sent a shiver down her spine. She quickened her pace, refusing to let him draw her back into his web. But Charles was relentless, his long strides closing the distance between them with alarming speed.
"Charles, just leave me alone" Nyx called over her shoulder, her voice strained with frustration. But he was undeterred, his presence growing ever closer, a shadow she couldn't escape."You think you can just walk away from this?" Charles's voice was low and furious as he caught up to her, his hand reaching out to grab her arm. "You think you can walk away from us?" Nyx whirled around, her eyes blazing with anger as she yanked her arm free from his grasp. "There is no 'us,' Charles," she spat, her voice shaking with fury. "There hasn't been for years. You made sure of that."
Charles's expression twisted with pain and rage, his fists clenching at his sides. "You don't understand," he ground out, his eyes dark with intensity. "I did what I had to do to protect you. Everything I did, I did for you." Nyx laughed bitterly, the sound hollow and devoid of mirth. "Protect me? You betrayed me, Charles. You left me to fend for myself in a world that wanted me dead. You killed the only family I had, don't you dare stand there and pretend it was for my sake."He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "You think the Giovinazzis care about you? You're just a tool to them, a weapon to be used and discarded when you're no longer useful." he glared at her. "And what am I to you?" Nyx shot back, her eyes narrowing. "A pawn in your power games? Another piece in your empire?" Charles's gaze softened, a hint of vulnerability breaking through his hardened exterior. "No, Nyx," he said quietly. "You were never a pawn to me. You were my equal, my partner. The only one I ever trusted." For a moment, the raw emotion in his voice gave her pause, the sincerity in his eyes chipping away at her defenses. But then she remembered the years of pain, the scars left by his betrayal, and her resolve hardened once more.
"Trust is earned, Charles," she said coldly. "And you lost mine a long time ago."
She turned to leave, but Charles moved to block her path, his eyes pleading. "Please, Nyx. Give me a chance to make things right. Join me, and together we can take control of everything. We can be unstoppable. I'll pay you whatever you want, hundreds of thousands of grands if you want, you want to lead my team of assassins? I'll make you the leader of my team."
Nyx stopped in her tracks when she heard the words 'leader of the team of assassins'. Her heart pounded in her chest. It was something she had dreamed of when she was being trained. Nyx, leader of assassins of the French mafia. The idea of having her own team, of being in charge for once, was undeniably tempting. She had spent so long following orders, always at the beck and call of others. This was a chance to reclaim her power, to carve out her own destiny.
Charles knew he got to her as she stopped walking. She stared at him, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts. "Why me, Charles?" she asked, her voice tinged with suspicion. "Why now?" she asked again, her mind was confused but her words firm. "Because its you, Nyx, I know what you're capable of, how deadly you are."
Nyx closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she weighed her options. The pull of her past with Charles was strong, the memories of their time together a bittersweet melody that tugged at her heart. But she couldn't ignore the potential of the future he was offering-a future where she could finally take the reins. Slowly, she opened her eyes and met his gaze. "If I agree to this," she said cautiously, "it's on my terms. Absolute control over the team, no interference from you. And if you ever betray me again, Charles, I'll make sure it's the last thing you ever do." Her eyes were as deadly as her daggers and guns as she glared at him.
Charles nodded, a glimmer of hope lighting his eyes. "Agreed. Absolute control, mon Cher. No interference. I promise." Nyx studied him for a long moment, searching for any hint of deception. But all she saw was a man desperate for redemption, a man who needed her as much as she needed this chance. "Fine," she said finally, her voice steady and resolute. "I'll do it."
He smirked, suddenly his dominant and authoritative demeanour was back. She squinted her eyes as she thought, what is this man fucking bipolar!? one minute he's begging me and now he's smirking, fucking asshole. She roll her eyes as he walked closer. Suddenly, he stopped, and before she could react, Charles stepped closer, his presence overwhelming.
His hand reached out, gripping her arm with a firm, almost possessive hold. Nyx's breath caught in her throat as he pulled her toward him, his dark eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that sent a shiver down her spine. "Charles, what-" she started, but the words died on her lips as he leaned in.
In one swift, aggressive motion, Charles grabbed the back of her hair and pressed his lips to her forehead.
It was not a gentle kiss; it was forceful, dominant, a physical assertion of his claim. Nyx felt the heat of his breath, the pressure of his lips branding her skin, and she stiffened, her body caught between a surge of conflicting emotions. He lingered there for a moment, his grip on her arm unyielding, as if to imprint the memory of this moment into her very being. When he finally pulled back, his eyes bore into hers, a storm of possessiveness and raw need swirling within them.
"This is only the beginning, baby," he murmured, his voice low and intense. "Remember who you are, and who you are to me."
Nyx's heart raced, a mix of anger and an unwelcome flicker of desire coursing through her veins. She yanked her arm free, taking a step back to put some distance between them. Her eyes flashed with defiance as she stared him down, refusing to let him see the turmoil he had stirred within her. Her anger returned as she pushed him away, pushing him to the wall of the old mansion, her grabbed her jaw in an agressive motion. His heart skipped a beat, a pang of fear rised in him but his body loved what she just did. "Don't ever think you'll get to control me, Charles, I'll kill you before you think I can." She groaned in front of his face "même les chiens ici en Italie savent qu'il ne faut pas m'aboyer dessus" she growled in French.
Fuck. Charles loved it. He loved how agressive she is, how agressive she has always been. He smirked, knowing it would piss her off "of course, love" He grinned as he removed her hand from his jaw with ease.
