*Second Person's POV*

You, Y/N Y/L/N, the daughter of a slave who ran away from their enslaver, leaving your life in their master's household to rot.

She, Kim Jisoo, the granddaughter of Lord Kim, a noblewoman and the one you were supposed to serve your whole life.

You have known her throughout your life. She has been a part of your life longer than even your parents were. She was kind, passionate, intelligent, brave, and beautiful. Her family was as powerful as the royals, but Jisoo was a very down-to-earth person.

She never saw you as a slave or servant. You were always her friend, but somewhere along the way, she fell in love with you.

You could easily pass for a young mister with the way you dressed and looked, but the only person who has seen the real you was her. Your smiles, eyes, and voice, she fell in love with everything about you, even your imperfections. Of course, the feeling was mutual, but both of you were under constant surveillance, so you never dared to act on your emotions. But once the heart knows what it wants, it goes for it.

When Jisoo's family came to know about your relationship, they locked you away from her. You were tortured for days without food and water. It was a hard struggle for a seventeen-year-old, but you endured it all for your love. You never regretted falling in love with her, but it was one thing to love your master, but a whole different story when you both are girls.

Jisoo protested her best to save you. Her family loved her so much. She was their pride. It hurt them to see her hurting, but they firmly believed your love was wrong, that it was a sin. So, to protect you, she agreed not to see you ever again and not to bring any shame to her family's name. You were kicked out of their place, freed from your enslavement.

It was during the Japanese annexation, so you joined a group of youngsters who worked and hoped for the country's freedom. You were the youngest out of them but fierce. They trained you effectively for weeks and months, sometimes without proper food or sleep. But you had a family there. They loved you as you. They never saw you as someone disgusting for falling in love with another girl. You were happy with them.

But even on the happiest or most challenging days, your mind was occupied by only one thought, the love of your life. What was your fault? Being born as a slave? Or that you were a girl as well? It hurt you whenever you thought about her. You missed her to death. Even amidst all the physical pain you had to endure, you couldn't take the pain your heart felt at the thought of her.

Most nights, the last words she told you kept you awake.

I will wait for you.

That's what she said. But you had no idea when will you be able to meet each other again. You were illiterate, but Jisoo taught you how to read and write. Just the basics, so whenever you missed her, you'd write to her. You kept the countless letters to yourself, unable to sent any to her.

It was a couple of years into the Japanese invasion, and things started to get nasty. People began protesting, forming anti-Japanese rallies. Of course, the Japanese Army tried its best to suppress the uprising, and the result was drastic. Thousands of people were killed, arrested, and wounded.

Jisoo's family was one of the few who were silent sponsors of the protestors. However, the news got out, and the Japanese Army started digging around.

When the news of Jisoo's grandfather's alleged death reached you, you knew who or what was behind it. But you were worried about her. You had vowed to protect her, and despite any circumstance, you'd do it. Your friends, at first, tried to convince you that it would be a stupid move, but you didn't care. They weren't going to let you go alone, so they joined you. They secured her parents and siblings while you and Jisoo escaped to the woods.
