The morning of the wedding dawned bright and clear. The castle was alive with activity, the staff bustling about to ensure every detail was perfect. Flowers adorned every surface, their sweet fragrance filling the air. Musicians practiced their melodies, and chefs prepared an extravagant feast. My chambermaids, Annabelle and Gwendolyn, fluttered around me, their excitement palpable.

"You're going to be the most beautiful bride anyone has ever seen," Annabelle said, her eyes shining as she adjusted the delicate lace on my gown.

Gwendolyn nodded, her fingers deftly fastening the intricate buttons down the back. "Just wait until Alexander sees you. He won't be able to take his eyes off you."

I smiled at their enthusiasm, but inside, I was a whirlwind of emotions. My gown was a masterpiece of silk and lace, the bodice adorned with pearls and intricate embroidery. The veil was long and flowing, a cascade of sheer fabric that trailed behind me like a river of dreams. Yet, as I looked at myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but feel a pang of doubt.

Gwendolyn handed me a bouquet of white roses and lavender, their delicate petals symbolizing purity and grace. "It will. Now, it's time to go. The ceremony is about to begin."

As I stood at the altar with Bastian, our hands clasped together, I tried to push aside my doubts. His eyes were filled with love and determination, and I vowed to honor my commitment to him and our people. But the memory of Kael's kiss lingered in my mind, a bittersweet ache that I couldn't shake.

As the priest commenced the ceremony, the air was filled with solemnity, his voice echoing with reverence. While the priest spoke, I couldn't help but steal a quick glance around the room. My eyes locked onto Kael, who stood at the back, his inscrutable expression drawing me in. For a fleeting moment, our gazes met, and a wave of longing washed over me. Hastily, I shifted my focus back to the imminent exchange of vows between Bastian and me.

I spoke the words almost as if in a daze. "I do," I replied, my voice trembling with emotion. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Bastian lifted my veil and gently cupped my face in his hands. His kiss was tender, filled with love and promise. The crowd erupted into applause, and despite the turmoil in my heart, I felt a moment of pure joy.

The reception that followed was a grand affair. The ballroom was decorated with twinkling lights and more flowers than I could count. The tables were laden with sumptuous food, and the music was lively and joyous. Bastian and I greeted our guests, accepting their congratulations and well wishes.

When I finally had a moment to myself, I stepped out onto a balcony to catch my breath.

The cool night air was a welcome relief, and I closed my eyes, letting the sounds of the celebration fade into the background. But my solitude was short-lived. I sensed someone approaching and turned to see Kael standing in the shadows.

"Congratulations, Your Highness," he said, his voice low and respectful.

"Thank you, Kael," feeling a pang in my heart as I noticed the growing formality between us. This emotional distance had persisted for days, a clear indication of the impending event we both knew was inevitable."

Kael nodded, his eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and determination. He started to say something but stopped when we heard footsteps approaching. Bastian appeared, his expression a mix of curiosity and concern. "there you are. I've been looking for you."

"I just needed some air," I said,

Bastian's gaze shifted to Kael, and for a moment, the tension was palpable. "Kael, thank you for looking after my wife. But I'll take it from here."

Kael bowed slightly. "Of course, Your Highness." With one last look at me, he turned and walked away,

It was my wedding night, and I was determined to make it perfect

Bastian gently took my hand and led me to the balcony. The moonlight bathed us in a soft glow, and the cool night air was a welcome relief from the tension inside the castle.

"Mary," he began, his voice tender, "I know things have been difficult for us lately, but I want you to know that I love you. I want to make this work, not just for our kingdoms, but for us."

My heart swelled with emotion at his words. I looked into his eyes, seeing the depth of his sincerity and love. "I love you too. I want to build a life with you."

He smiled, a look of relief and joy washing over his face. "Then let's take this moment to forget about everything else and just be together."

He led me back inside, and we moved towards the bed. Our kisses were slow and passionate, filled with a longing that had been building between us. His touch was gentle yet firm, his hands exploring my body with a reverence that made me feel cherished and desired.

As we undressed, the barriers between us seemed to fall away. We became lost in each other, our movements a dance of love and passion. The intensity of our connection took my breath away, and I felt my love for Alexander deepen with every touch, every kiss.

That night, we made love with a fervor that spoke of our desire to bridge the gaps between us. The feel of his skin against mine, the way he whispered my name with such tenderness, made me realize how much I truly loved him. We were not just allies bound by duty but two souls entwined in love.

As we lay entwined in each other's arms afterward, I felt a sense of peace and contentment. Bastian gently brushed a strand of hair from my face, his eyes filled with adoration. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You're my heart, my soul."
