°°°°°°°Rudra's eyes flutter opens to the harsh, sterile light of the hospital room, soon after ten minutes his wife leaves and another family sitting outside. His head throbs, a persistent reminder of the chaos that had led him here. The last thing he remembered is his wife's face, gently stroking his facial features and calling him then darkness. Now, as he groggily comes to, a rising dread gnaw at him. He pushes himself upright, ignoring the protest of his muscles. His head feels numb to him as he waits for minutes then drinks a glass of water placed near by him.
The room was eerily quiet, save for the distant cacophony of shouts and the sporadic crackle of gunfire, he is unaware of the happenings out there in broad daylight. Rudra's pulse quickens as he glances around, expecting to see his wife, Avantika, by his side. But the chair next to his bed is empty.
"Eva?" He croaks, his voice barely a whisper. Panic surges through him, cutting through the fog of pain and disorientation. He somewhere feels something off, something which cannot be easily slip off. He swings his legs over the side of the bed, wincing as his feet touch the cold floor. His mind races, piecing together fragmented memories.
A nurse with his mother burst into the room. And when they find Rudra standing on his feet with little stress on his face- their face masks urgency and concern, "Mr. Rathore, you need to lie down. You're not fully recovered-"
"Where is my wife?" Rudra interrupts, his voice low and dangerous. The nurse looks towards Padma for an answer because she is unaware, meanwhile Padma eyes darting towards the door. Nurse takes the que and follows order, leaving the VIP ward.
"Maa, where is Avantika?" Rudra voice dark, fearful yet groggy. His eyes are red due to being in a temporary coma for some time.
"Rudra, actually..." Padma silences, not knowing how to say this. She got a call ten minutes ago. The reason why she came inside.
Rudra cannot control. The hesitation and fear in his mother's voice already made his mind run into different situations with worst conclusions, "What, maa? Ishita- did she do something-"
