"Welcome students!" Dumbledore's voice boomed through the great hall.
It felt good to be home. Really home. Not the Mansion he definitely wasn't going back to until all the scum called the Blacks had died off.
Sirius stared at Remus. He had grown fond of the boy over the summer. Remus had a few new scars on his face. He also smelled strangely like a sweet earthy plant known as canabis, or better known by muggles, weed.
The orientation didn't take long. There weren't many new kids so sorting didn't take long. The boys all rushed up to their dorms once everyone was dismissed.
Sirius fell into the comfort of Remus' bed. His own was more like a required sleeping space. He preferred to sleep with others, due to his terrible nightmares. He usually ended up alone though.
"Home sweet home." Peter muttered as he flopped onto his bed, falling asleep almost immediately. Everyone was tired.
Remus layed down next to Sirius, his head on the pillow. Sirius looked up at his friend. It couldn't be denied, Remus was absolutely gorgeous. Scars and all.
[Another time skip bc I'm lazy and it's 3:30am :)]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Potions was the first class. And much to Remus' chagrin, he was picked to smell the Amortentia.
"Sandalwood shampoo, leather, expensive Cologne, and cigarettes." Remus knew who it was he smelled. It was Sirius. He wasn't shocked. Just embarrassed. He could feel his whole face heating up and his heart was practically beating out of his chest.
"Thank you Mr. Lupin." Professor Slughorn said carefully. "You may head to your seat. Would anyone else like to volunteer?"
As Remus went to sit down, Sirius went to the front. Sirius never participated. Remus sat down and lay his head on the desk.
"Very well. Thank you Mr. Black." Slughorn gestured for Sirius to smell the potion.
"Old books, chocolate, black tea, coffee, and canabis." Sirius looked about as embarrassed as Remus had, rushing to his desk without being asked to sit back down.
Remus and Sirius all but avoided each other the rest of the day, making Peter and James feel a little tense.
"Moony, a word?" James finally said around lunch time. It was only the first day. He wasn't doing this whole awkward thing.
Remus followed him to a quiet corner of the common room.
"Yeah?" Remus finally managed to squeak out.
"You and Padfoot need to clear things up. I don't care how you do it, but I'm not doing this awkward thing for the next however bloody long." James sounded like a mother scolding her child, not that it was abnormal. He had always been the most level headed of the group, despite his constant want to pull pranks on everyone.
"Yes mother." Remus was being a little snarky, but he was nervous. What if someone else smelled just exactly what Sirius had smelled and Remus was just being a hopeful idiot?
"Go on then." James put his hands on his hips like his mother does.
Remus nods and walks to Sirius.
"Pads? Can we talk.... Uhm.... Alone?" Remus' voice was barely even a whisper, and he sounded like he might pass out any second.
"yeah.....sure..." Sirius scuffed his boots on the stone floors of the common room.
[hehe yet another lazy time skip bc it feels unnesessary to spend an entire page describing an awkward silence]
Remus pulled Sirius into the astronomy tower. Rarely anyone ever went up there so it wasn't surprising that they were alone. Sirius was the first to speak, his voice soft and scared, though not scared like when his mother would threaten him. No, this was a good scared. The kind that you know will be followed by a good change as gut wrenching and terrifying as it may be in the moment.
"So, you wanted to talk?" His voice shook a little bit as he spoke, his hands shoved nervously into his pockets.
"Yeah... I did." Had been all Remus could manage.
"What did you want to talk about?" The shorter boy's voice had shaken more than he wanted it to.
"What you smelled..." The taller of the two had finally managed, "During potions... That wasn't me... was it?" Remus' stomach had done at least four barrel rolls as he asked this question, not able to make eye contact with his raven haired friend.
"Would you hate me if it was?"
"What?! No, I could never-"
"Then yes. It was you. It has been since third year."
"You mean it? You aren't fucking with me?"
"No." When Sirius paused, an air hung between the two, making the air heavy. "But now I have to ask... Did you smell me? That wasn't someone else was it?"
"Yes. It was you I'd smelled. And it scared me Sirius."
