Moment Of Your Life
Brent Faiyaz, Coco Jones

Jake Stanton

If you told me I would be distracted during practice looking for a girl on the sidelines, I would have laughed in your face. I have better things to worry about than getting myself too invested in a project.

Jake you have straight As do not fuck this up for yourself. The more I think about the situation the better it gets. At least I'm not paired up with Mackenzie or any of the other annoying fake girls in my class. Thank God for that.

Coach Jackson has us running laps around the field as warm up, forcing me to lead at the front. 'Team captain sets the example', his words not mine. On my left I can hear Leon running out of breath.

"Bro, are you good? I thought you do gym and skateboarding on top of this." I tease. "What's got you out of it?"

Leon turns to me, mouth open struggling to breath. I don't blame him. Coach is pretty hard on these exercises, and Leon only joined the soccer team to support me.

"Nah, I saw Aurora again."

I scoff, "Literally everyone knows you're whipped over her. Just talk it out."

"Yeah so what if I like her. She was walking with Jeremiah. Of all people she's picking a fucking model who cheats on all his girlfriends..."

I regret saying anything

"You know what I'm literally done with her. She said we were too serious and she wasn't ready for the commitment and proceeded to talk it up with my enemy."

Coach blows a whistle telling us to finish up and move onto more drills.

"But you like her right? Why not just talk to her about why she thinks your relationship is too much commitment." The words are flowing out of my mouth and I can't stop them. Hell I've never even been in a relationship, let alone talked to a girl outside of class or in the hallways.

Leon grabs his bottle, squeezing the water into his mouth before continuing with the drills. "It's not like I didn't try talking it out. She ran away. I tried everyday for two months but she consistently avoided me."

I run forward fully focused on the 1 vs 1 shooting drill in front of me. Once the ball hits the nets I walk back into the line, continuing out conversation, "Well I heard from Bryson that she's coming to the party at mine," he gave me a raised eyebrow in return, "I say you win her back. Replace James or whatever his name is."

"It's Jeremiah, and how does Bryson even know?" Leon asks, confusion spreading across his face.

To be honest I don't even know, but Bryson has been close with Sharnie. The last I heard was he was planning to get her flowers for Valentines. He's been asking around her friends for her favourite flowers and colour.

"Sharnie." I say, bringing my clear nike bottle up to my mouth.

I turn my head towards the sidelines seeing girls crowded around the seats, before my eyes lock with her. I throw my bottle on the grass, running over to the sideline fences.

"I thought you'd run off with or something." I joke.

She rolls her eyes in response. God I did not realise they were so perfectly brown. A void of caramel swirls pulling me into her. Fuck me.

"Sorry, these two girls started fighting in the hallway, as I was halfway out." Her face contorts expressing some sort of horror.

"That sounds about right."

Tara give a tight lipped smile but her dimples slip out. Jesus she has dimples as well. We have matching dimples.

"Anyways, I don't really mind what organisations we do, but can we go to an animal shelter?"

"Yeah, I'm so down for that." I place a hand behind the back of my head, my shirt lifting up slightly in the process. I don't miss the way her eyes divert from my face down to my abs and back up at me. I can't help but laugh a little.

"Why are you laughing?" She has a judgy look on her face. And I don't want to expose her and make her uncomfortable.

"Nothing, don't worry about it. Are you coming to the party at my place tonight?"

Her hands reach up to just above her eyes covering the sun shining in her face. "No, it sounds lame."

I desperately try to hide the disappoint on my face, but I know she catches onto it immediately.

"I'm joking Stanton, I'll be there."

It's silly of me, but I immediately start beaming.

"Ok bet, I'll send you the address just to be sure."

She smiles, "Ok, bye I need to get ready." She's practically shouting as she walks away from where I'm standing next to the fence. I flash her double thumbs up, walking back onto the pitch to a shocked Leon.

"What?"
