You guys decided to try another investigation to try and gather more evidence regarding the Jersey Devil. Arriving at the beginning of the forest, you all turned towards each other, a weird vibe emanating from deep inside the vast green ahead of you.
"You guys really think there's a weird deer, goat, bat mutant in these woods?" Colby joked, staring out of his window into the bushes as the car creeped forward.
"I guess we'll find out tonight... that's if Colby doesn't run off with it first," Sam joked, shaking his head as he proceeded deeper into the forest, passing multiple small but empty campsites as you trudged on.
You had decided to spend the night at a campsite that was close to a point of interest to conduct your investigation. Pulling up to a campsite, approximately 15-20 minutes into the forest, you could already feel isolated from the world as you stepped out of the car.
"The amount of damn bugs is ridiculous dude," Colby swatted the air around him, like he was practicing karate.
"Yeah, if we don't get lost and die from starvation, i'll be dying from the gnats and mosquitoes," you groaned, slapping your arm as you felt a pinch.
"Guys, let's set up the tent and get ready for the ruins later," Sam suggested as he unloaded the trunk, handing you some bug spray.
You sprayed yourself and handed the can to the itching Colby before heading over to help Sam start setting the tent. Colby joined you both, getting the tent set up quickly before starting on the small firepit. You gathered some large rocks and set them in a circle to contain your fire, Colby and Sam adding in the sticks and some leaf litter for your lighter to get started with.
You flicked the lighter, a flame igniting with the foliage under the branches before starting to burn the actual bark. You stood back, pocketing the lighter and held out your hands, the fire beginning to grow as your body embraced the heat. The bugs drew back as well from the fire, starting to leave you with less itching bites for the next day.
Sam emerged from the tent, done setting up the sleeping bags and bag of snacks for later, "Alright, looks like we're all set up."
"It's almost midnight, I think we should head over and start. I don't want to be out there long, even from pictures it makes me uneasy," you stated, rubbing your arms nervously as you turned to head to the car.
"I agree. I think a couple hours will bring us enough results," Sam unlocked the car, hopping in the driver's seat as Colby slid into the backseat.
You drove down the road for about 10 minutes, going right at the fork and stopping once you found a large puddle. Colby tossed a small rock in and you all agreed that the car should be able to make it with no issue. You proceeded down the road until you came upon a wall that looked ready to collapse at any second.
"Yeah, if I was demon spawn, i'd live here," Colby snorted as the car parked.
Sam grabbed his backpack out of the trunk and waited for you guys to gather before starting to head towards the wall. He brought out his camera handing it to Colby to start recording. "We're here at the Harrisville Ruins in the Pine Barrens to try to see if the Jersey Devil wants to communicate," Colby stated to the camera, panning it to look at Sam.
Sam then took out a REM-POD and turned it on, setting it on a high ledge to be visible, it loudly beeping until his hand was off of it. Next, out came the spirit box so any ghosts could communicate with their words.
"Is there anyone or anything here with us?" Sam asked, holding the spirit box as he returned closer to you guys.
Everything was silent for a minute, the only sound was the Katydids and occasional gust of wind.
