"WELL, WELL, WELL." wes smirked from the other side of the screen door, while kat stood shaking from the rain. "to what do i owe this pleasure?"
"let me in. i need to talk to you."
"i don't know— are you going to hurt me if i let you in?"
"i'm more likely to hurt you if you don't."
"true. but i am genuinely afraid you are going to punch me for stealing the Spot if i let you inside. you're the scary sister kat."
"wes!" wes' mom came up behind him, horrified as she saw lol me in the rain. "for the love of god , open the door for the poor girl."
"i think she's here to kill me." he says as though a scared little kid, his mom was trying not to smile.
"come inside katherine." she pulled me inside. "my son is nuisance and he's sorry."
"no i'm not."
kat smacked his arm.
"tell me what he did and i'll help you punish him."
kat pushed her wet, now wavy hair out of her face and smiled devilishly at wes. "he stole out spot when we were trying to parallel park."
"oh my god you told my mom on me? you're more evil than i thought." he closed the door behind us. "well, if we're randomly tattling, mom, i should tell you that kat called the cops on my car when i had pneumonia."
"what?" she stopped dead in her tracks and turned around. "when were you sick?"
"when did you call?" he said fake coughing while putting his hands to his heart. "i was too ill to even move my car."
"ass." kat rolled her eyes. she couldn't tell if she was messing with her or not. "were you seriously sick though?"
he scanned her face. "would you seriously care?"
"knock it off brats." wes' mom gestured for the pair to follow her into the living room. "here, talk, eat some cookies, get over yourselves."
his mom set town a plate of chocolate chip cookies on the table and tossed kat a towel before leaving them alone.
kat took in her surroundings. it had been a while since she was in the wes' house but it hadn't changed much, her eyes landed on the television playing kate & leopold, an image of her mother on the couch with her sister watching it popped into her mind.
"i hate this movie."
"not suprised." he says, flashing her an annoying grin before grabbing a cookie. "so what'd you want to talk about?"
"right." kat sighed. "listen, i need you to do something for me. and before you ask me what's in it for you i'm getting there."
"ouch- that hurts."
"no it doesn't."
"really doesn't."
"... and i need this to be a secret, just between me and you."
"okay. this payment better be good buxbaum."
"oh it is." kat nodded. "you get the spot for a week. no arguments, all the time."
"woah." he said in shock. "you're giving me me the spot."
"mhm."
"okay. whatever you want. i'm your guy."
"you don't know what i'm asking you to do bennett."
"doesn't matter. i'll do whatever it takes."
kay narrowed her eyes skeptically.
"what if i asked you to run naked around the school at lunch."
"you'd enjoy that wouldn't you?" wes smirked. "but i'd do it for the spot."
"you disgust me."
"what if i asked you asked you to do cartwheels while singing the hamilton soundtrack?"
"done. i love my shot."
"no way." i smiled broadly. "can you even do a cartwheel?"
"yup."
"prove it."
"you really are high maintenance kat."
nonetheless he moved the coffee table out of his way and did the worst cartwheel kat had ever seen, before sitting back down in his chair.
"that was terrible." kat laughed.
"just tell me what you want." he rolled his eyes.
that reminded the girl of something.
kat was always an interesting child, her and her sister were strange in their own, different ways.
in other words when kat was nine she made a stand outside her house and tried to sell her shitty drawings.
it was not a success.
no one bought anything. it had already been an hour and kat began to cry.
"kat? what's wrong?" wes asked from his yard.
"nothing."
"what're you selling?"
"stupid drawings."
"i don't think they're stupid."
"everyone else does."
"so?"
"what?"
"so? who cares? do you like the drawings?"
"yeah i-"
"then why does matter if no one else likes them? here." he says extending a five dollar bill. "can i have the cat one?"
"it's a dog."
he rolled his eyes. "do you want my money or not kat?"
her mind snapped back to present.
he rolled his eyes just the same.
"okay. but if you tell anyone about this deal i'll kill you myself."
"i believe you. now spill."
"fine. listen, i like like milo, and milo like likes liz, and milo is taking liz to the party to see micheal. i need you to take me to the party."
"stop saying "like likes" this isn't middle school."
"shut it."
"so what is me taking you to this party going to do for you anyways?"
"milo sees me as like.. his sister, if he sees me show up to a party, with a guy, he'll realize that he actually likes me."
"jesus." wes sighed.
"so..?"
"so...?" he repeats.
"are you gonna help me or not bennett?!"
"i don't know if just the Spot is worth it."
"worth what? you're lucky to be in my presence." i roll my eyes. "you won't even know i'm there."
"what if i'm trying to hit it off with someone?"
"you won't notice me i promise. i'll be to busy making sure milo notices me."
"fine."
"yes!" i say doing a victory twirl.
"settle your ass down." he scoffed turning back to the tv. "we can agree on one thing this movie sucks."
