Leaving Nismo wasnt easy, he liked his job, he liked Japan, he was lonely yes but he had his work and that was enough, but Angelus tried to brush those feelings aside as he packed the last box in his now empty apartment.Settling into his new life in Milton Keynes was surprisingly easy. The transition from Japan to the UK was smoother than he had anticipated, thanks in large part to the supportive environment at Red Bull Racing.
He dove headfirst into the development of the 2023 car, working tirelessly alongside Adrian Newey and the team. Every day brought new challenges and breakthroughs. Angelus and Newey spent countless hours in the wind tunnel, fine-tuning the aerodynamics, testing various configurations, and analyzing data. The car slowly evolved from a collection of ideas and sketches into a formidable racing machine. The camaraderie within the team was invigorating.
Angelus found himself surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the sport, and their collective passion was infectious. Despite the long hours and intense pressure, he felt more alive than he had in years.
Angelus had been working at Redbull for almost a month when the 2022 season drew to a close, Max Verstappen was in the thick of the championship battle. The final race of the season was a nail-biter, with Max clinching the title in a dramatic finish. The entire Red Bull team erupted in celebration, and an invitation to the championship party was extended to Angelus. But Angelus declined. They were celebrating a victory he played no part in and they were celebrating a driver he was sure would not want him there anyway.
Angelus used to dream of this, that one day one of them would do it and one of them would become world champions together but he is older now he knows how childish these dreams were unrealistic
Instead, he decided to take some time off and visit his family in Italy. It had been almost a year, too long since he had seen his mother and sister, and he needed the comfort of home.
2015 -F1 Imola GP:
The commentators couldn't contain their excitement as the two cars zoomed past them, one dark blue, the other blood red.
"Two young drivers are running free practice today: Max Verstappen for Torro Rosso and the incredible Angelus Reyes for Ferrari. An outstanding performance from both drivers," one commentator announced, as the cars whizzed by.
"Yes, I must agree. There's been a lot of talk around both drivers lately. Max has been in negotiations with the junior team, and Angelus is being sought out by multiple teams and is currently leading the f3 championship already securing a spot in f2 next year" another commentator added.
"But one team seems to be a fan favorite. Listen to that crowd roar for the young Italian in the Ferrari. What a kid!"
The crowd erupted as Angelus passed by, their cheers echoing across the track. The Imola fans were ecstatic to see an Italian driver in the iconic red car.
"Look at that! Max and Angelus neck and neck. They're actually racing! You'd forget this was just practice. Max has got the aggression, but Angelus is so calm and meticulous—fire and ice,"
"They will certainly make a difference in the sport. I see two champions in the making."
As the practice session ended, Angelus and Max stood behind the motorhome, their hair tousled and race suits hanging off their waists, still buzzing with adrenaline.
"Shit, Max, that was insane!" Angelus said excitedly, his eyes sparkling with the thrill of the race.
"It was amazing. It's so different from the F1 car—the speed, the feel, everything," Max replied, equally exhausted and exhilarated.
