Synopsis

Sydney Lyon's always had certain expectations surrounding her as she held the last name of her father. James Lyon, an ex Pogue who had managed to become the richest man in the Outer Banks, who now had all the Kooks on Figure Eight wrapped around his finger.
By just ten years old, she had rejected the typical Kook lifestyle and all the expectations people wanted her to meet. She was different, even as a child. She was shy and quiet and much rather paint, explore, and surf unlike the other Kook kids who sat in the country clubs and talked about whos daddy got them the most expensive toy for christmas. This trend only continued to get stronger and stronger the more she grew up and she started to hate her peers more and more and all their snobby, stuck up, spoilt attitudes.
As a result, it was no surprise when she found herself at the sixteen years old having no real friends other than her dog. But she didn't care—she was saving herself from becoming like them, right?
At least that's what she told herself, because in reality Sydney was lonely. Her life was not like any teenage girl in a movie: no best friend, no boyfriend, no social gatherings to fill her weekends, not even a proper parent figure considering her dad was always out of town on business and her mom had died when she was young. She was all alone.
Yet, this summer was going to be different. Sydney had promised herself that she would break out of her shell and finally make some friends and live the rest of her teenage years the way they were supposed to be lived—even if it meant interacting with the Kooks she had always distanced herself from.
This summer was going to be the best summer of her life.
