Synopsis

˚

Sydney Lyon grew up with a last name that carried weight. Her father, James Lyon, was a former Pogue who'd clawed his way into the Kooks' world until he became one of the richest men on Figure Eight. To everyone else, that meant privilege. To Sydney, it meant expectations she never wanted.

By just ten years old, she had rejected the typical Kook lifestyle and the expectations people wanted her to meet. She was different, even as a child. While the other Kook kids bragged in country clubs about who got the newest boat for Christmas, Sydney was barefoot on the sand with a surfboard, or tucked away with a paintbrush in her hand. The more she grew, the more she despised their spoiled, shallow attitudes—and the more she pulled away.

As a result, it was no surprise when she found herself at sixteen years old having no real friends other than her dog. But she didn't care—she was saving herself from becoming like them, right?

At least that's what she told herself, because in reality the truth was lonelier than she wanted to admit. Her life was not like any teenage girl in a movie: no best friend, no boyfriend, no social gatherings to fill her weekends, not even a proper parent figure considering her dad was always out of town on business. She was all alone.

But this summer, things were going to change. Sydney was done hiding. She'd promised herself she'd make friends, take chances, and finally live the way a teenager should—even if it meant breaking her own rules and crossing lines she swore she never would.

This was going to be the summer that changed everything.
