Isabella sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the calendar on her nightstand. Today was her birthday, a day that had always been filled with joy and celebration. Every year, her mother would bake her favorite cake, and they would spend the day together, just the two of them. But this year was different. This year, her mother was gone, and the weight of her absence pressed heavily on Isabella's heart.

She missed her mother terribly, and the recent revelations about the mystery surrounding her mother's death only added to her sorrow. It was supposed to be a day of happiness, but instead, Isabella felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness.

A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.

"Isabella, are you getting ready?" Stella, the maid who had been like an aunt to her, poked her head into the room.

Isabella sighed and nodded. "I am, Stella. I just... I don't know what to wear."

Stella stepped into the room, her kind eyes taking in Isabella's forlorn expression. "I have something for you," she said, holding up a beautifully wrapped box. "It's from Robert."

Isabella took the box from Stella, her curiosity piqued. She carefully unwrapped it, revealing an elegant dress. It was a deep, rich blue, with delicate lace detailing and a flowing skirt. It was stunning, and Isabella couldn't help but feel a small spark of appreciation for Robert's thoughtfulness.

"It's beautiful," Isabella whispered, running her fingers over the fabric.

Stella smiled warmly. "He wanted to make sure you had something special to wear tonight."

Isabella's heart softened slightly. Despite her reluctance about the party, she couldn't deny that Robert had tried to make her day special in his own way.

"Thank you, Stella," she said, standing up and slipping into the dress. It fit perfectly, hugging her curves in all the right places.

As she looked at herself in the mirror, Isabella couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She wished her mother could see her now, wished she could be here to celebrate with her.

Stella noticed the change in her expression and gently squeezed her shoulder. "Your mother would be so proud of you, Isabella. And she would want you to enjoy your day, even if it's hard."

Isabella nodded, blinking back tears. "I know, Stella. I just... I miss her so much."

Stella gave her a reassuring smile. "I know you do, dear. But you're strong, and you'll get through this. And who knows, maybe tonight will be better than you expect."

Isabella took a deep breath and nodded, feeling a renewed sense of determination. She would get through this, for her mother's sake. And maybe, just maybe, she would find some joy in the celebration.

As she descended the grand staircase, the sound of laughter and conversation reached her ears. The mansion was filled with guests, most of whom she didn't recognize. Rich, influential people mingled and sipped champagne, all there to celebrate her birthday. It felt strange and overwhelming, but she plastered on a polite smile and greeted them as graciously as she could.

Robert spotted her from across the room and made his way over. "Happy Birthday, Isabella," he said, his eyes soft with genuine warmth. "You look beautiful."

"Thank you, Robert," she replied, feeling a mixture of gratitude and awkwardness. "Thank you for the dress and the party."

"I just wanted to make sure your day was special," he said, his voice gentle.

Isabella nodded, glancing around the room. "It's certainly... different."

Robert chuckled softly. "I know it's not what you're used to. But I hope you'll still find some enjoyment tonight."
