Hello everyone, I am Kunle Adeniyi and I don't know if this is the real me, I cant remember if I was different but I know I have I felt better,
Ever since I came across the concept ADHD on the internet I began to read more about it and I subscribe to a YouTube channel that specifically talks about the mental disorder. I followed Sarah from Canada on Facebook who is the owner of the channel and I was privileged to speak to her on video for the first time.
I told her all my problems and she offered to help me if only I can be totally sincere answering all her questions, that I pledged to and I was truly hundred percent with her when I told Sarah my whole story. she asked me a lot of questions most of them almost pissed me off the video call, but she was able to control my rage and deescalate the situation, it was nice speaking with her but I wasn't feeling good after that day, I have searched for this problem for a long time and now it is something that doesn't even have a cure.ADHD meaning Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a metal disorder that affects an individual ability to focus, causing unnecessary hyperactiveness and also having problems controlling their impulsive behaviour.

ADHD can be caused by:
• Toxins in the environment may lead to ADHD. For instance, affecting the child development and behavior.
• Genes and heredity. ADHD frequently runs in families. A child with ADHD has a 1 in 4 chance of having a parent with ADHD. It's also likely that another close family member, such as a sibling, will also have ADHD. Sometimes, ADHD is diagnosed in a parent at the same time it is diagnosed in the child.
• Significant head injuries may cause ADHD in some cases.
• Prematurity increases the risk of developing ADHD.
• Prenatal exposures, such as alcohol or nicotine from smoking, increase the risk of developing ADHD.
• Brain anatomy and function. A lower level of activity in the parts of the brain that control attention and activity level may be associated with ADHD.From what Sarah explained to me, I didn't understand all the cerebellum, brain cells and hormones talk but I know that she said, a brain cell that is responsible for that trigger was supposed to function manually in a normal human, but in an ADHD patient it kind of happens automatically. Really that is the only statement I was able to peak from the entire conversation. ohh! and that an ADHD environment will also produce ADHD kids.
For example imagine a boy grows up to be a man and get married without grabbing the wheels of this all his ADHD crisis, he will end up not paying attention to his wife and children, making careless mistakes because he lacks focus, he will be distracted by minor things instead to tackling the real problems at hand, now think of how all this will affect his children.
Another example is a girl who grows up to become a woman then a mother without grabbing the wheels of all her ADHD crisis, she will move around more frequently and not have time for her kids, most of this women fight with their husbands regularly because of the level of anxiety they feel and they can't control Their impulsive behaviour.
I know the Last example I gave there about girls having ADHD must have shocked most of you. Well According to the American Psychiatric Association ADHD was Commonly believed to only affect boys.
That brings us to the two types of ADHD, which are INATTENTIVE and HYPERACTIVE IMPULSITY.
Most females with ADHD have suffered from the INATTENTIVE type, the one without the Hyperactiveness and that is what makes it hard to detect ADHD in girls, the reason is that most women don't naturally possess the amount of energy to be hyperactive but it will begin to show gradually as she get older and stronger. The problem of ADHD in Nigeria is that a lot of people in the country are ignorant about it, despite a high rate of 8.7% of children and adults living with this mental disorder in the country.
research has found that kids with ADHD are two to three times more likely to abuse substances than other kids in the general population because such substances are likely to provide a quick fix as they try to stabilise their ADHD crises such as chronic anxiety and depression which are the long lasting effect of ADHD if not cautioned.
base on recent research a prevalence of 20-40% and 20.9% of drug abuse was reported among students and youths, respectively. Commonly abused drugs include amphetamine, heroin, diazepam, codeine, cough syrup, cannabis and tramadol.
And based on my experience I can say that ADHD is responsible for many teenagers involved in drug abuse. A lot of helpless teenagers and adults that use these hard drugs to temporarily balance their condition are only making things worst for themselves. Apart from the internal damages to our organs, these drugs do not cure or treat the ADHD in any way, instead it makes it more difficult for the body to naturally adapt to the condition and in most cases like mine the symptoms worsens after the effect of the drug wears off causing the person to consume more and more until the addiction gets out of hand.
Another effect of ADHD in the country is that it increases Gang activities, violence and especially in Nigeria it increases the rate of cultism, in the sense that most children that are victims make the wrong friends and find themselves in the wrong place due to always moving around frequently and they tend to be more comfortable if they are in a Judgement free environment and they also like to mingle with people that exhibit antisocial characters like themselves.
I did a whole lot of research on ADHD and I finally got all the tools I needed and was ready to build a new life but first of all, I must learn to cope with my everlasting situation. living with ADHD may not be the best way to live but for those who are already victims, we must learn how to live with it and still be as productive as any other person on earth.
