A little girl sat on the dusty floor and drew lines in the dirt with her fingers. She kept looking at two people across from her who were fighting with each other.
Swords kept crashing against swords, often so loudly that the little girl wanted to cover her ears. But she was supposed to keep track of who won and how often, and she always took her tasks very seriously.
Especially when it was her brother asking her for something. The little girl was sure that she would do anything for him.
The young woman brought the young man down again with her sword and the little girl drew another line in the sand.
Then she shouted something to the other two.
"The score is fifteen to three. I apologize Marcellus, but Bekka was better than you again."
The girl laughed lightly. As long as she could remember her brother had never beat Rebekah in the last years.
A while later, Rebekah and Marcellus were training again and the little girl retreated back into the house, slightly sad.
She didn't feel like drawing any more lines in the ground, she just sat there stupidly.
"Is something bothering you Malinda?", a voice behind the little girl asked her.
She turned her head around, even though she knew who was behind her anyway.
"If I am really honest, then yes. Marcellus and Bekka train together all day. The only thing I am allowed to do is draw lines in the sand. I feel excluded, Nik.", Malinda admitted.
Even though she was so young, she never found it difficult to admit feelings. Only in front of her brother. Marcellus often told her that being open is a weakness.
A year ago the siblings were taken in by the Mikaelsons. Malinda was grateful, but she never felt completely happy. Because deep down she knew that both Nik and Rebekah liked her brother better than her.
And even though she knew that both Elijah and Kol preferred her to Marcellus, one because of her ability to listen well and the other because of her slightly mean streak, Malinda did not favor them over their siblings.
She liked Rebekah because she was like a big sister to her that the little girl never had.
She still didn't know why she liked Nik, considering his cruel actions against others.
Because there was something about the Mikaelsons that was a secret. And Malinda was well trained never to mention this secret to anyone else.
Otherwise a lot of blood would flow.
