"No Maison, no" you breathed out.

"Mom!" she said with a giggle, jumping slightly on her chair, her hands always extended towards you to pick her up.

The smile had faded completely from your face and you were taking in deep breaths trying to keep the tears that had welled up in your eyes from rolling.

"She wants you to pick her up. Come on (Y/n)!" Vicki said, the smile never leaving her face.

It was weird, though. Had she not realized that Maison was calling you mom instead of her?

"Mom" the little girl repeated, making weird motions with her hands towards you. Always ready for you to pick her up.

Vicki laughed again, her eyes never leaving her daughter "Oh wait till Misha hears this!" she said excitedly.

"He was so sure that her first word was going to be dad, like West's. Can't wait to tell him." she laughed and kissed her daughter's cheek, Maison's eyes never leaving you but the smile that was previously on her face was replaced by a small pout this time.

"What do you say (Y/n)?" Vicki asked but when she turned to look at you the smile faded from her lips too.

Tears were running down your cheeks, despite your best efforts to keep them in, and although you tried to hold them back sobs were starting to shake your whole body.

"Oh my (Y/n) wha-" she started asking but didn't say more as you cut her off.

"I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry Vicki I- I really am. I- I- God, I am so terribly sorry Vicki. I didn't- I didn't think she would-" you started stuttering out tears not stopping to roll.

"Whow whow, hey (Y/n), no. No (Y/n) relax, please, dear. Just- come sit here." she said and motioned for you to sit on a chair that was nearby, putting her hands on your shoulders and trying to calm you down.

"(Y/n), please. Take a deep breath ok?" she said and you did as told, wiping the few tears away.

"Now will you tell me why you were apologizing?" she asked with a kind smile and you felt guilty to even look in her eyes.

"I- Maison- She-" you let out a shaky breath and tried to muster all the courage you had "She just called me mom, Vicki"

"So?" she asked with a smile and you looked at her with a deep frown "She called you mom, yes, that was very much obvious but- is that why you were crying and apologizing?"

"I- yeah, actually yeah" you managed to say.

"Oh dear, but why? (Y/n) you shouldn't be like that. Maison just said her first word and Misha just lost a bet so he owes as both a huge favor, if you remember" she said with a laugh, trying to lighten the mood, and reminding you of the bet you had long ago put with Misha.

"Yeah, I guess" you managed to chuckle "But Vicki- she- she called me mom. Me. And..." you bit your lip "... I am not her mother. You are. And you were standing right next to her and she- she called me her mom Vicki. But I do not have that right." you said looking down at your hands.

"Oh (Y/n), so this is what it is all about huh?" she asked and laughed softly "I am perfectly aware of the fact that I am her mother (Y/n). I gave birth to her, that is something I surely will not forget. But that doesn't mean that I am the only that has the right to be called mom by her, or West for that matter. You care about her, (Y/n). You really care about her the way I do. You make sure that her and West are fine and have everything they need, happiness and love above all. You've been there on moments that I couldn't and really I can't be more grateful to you about that. I really can't express how grateful I am to you for loving them and caring about them so much, even though they are not your own children. (Y/n)- look at me" she said softly and you looked up at her.

"If there would ever be someone that my children would call mother, other than me, then I would not be more happy than that someone to be you. Because you have that right, (Y/n). You have earned it. Not by faking care but by truly loving them as if they were your own." she smiled glancing at Maison for a split second then back at you "Besides- I don't think there would ever be someone more ideal for that crazy man up there than you" she added and you could swear you felt your cheeks burn hot.

"I- Misha and I are just friends, Vicki. We- we don't- It's- We-" you started stuttering before you were cut off by her laughing.

"Oh I know that. Very well for that matter. It's just- I know that Misha will move on, one day. And honestly I want him to. That's why we got the divorce. We both knew that what we had between us was long ago over. And that's why are good friends now, anyway. Just- I would honestly never be able to picture him without you by his side." she said and you head snapped in your direction "You, (Y/n), are the only person that I know would care and love him as much as I once did, if not more. Just like I know that you are the only person that would love Maison and West this much. And... let's be honest. You do, don't you?" she smirked raising an eyebrow and you looked down at your hands, knowing fully well that she didn't mean just the love for Maison and West but for Misha too.

"I- We're just friend, Vicki. He..." you took in a deep breath "He doesn't see me that way" you mumbled.

"Well, you never know now, do you?" she smiled and you just shook your head.

You opened your mouth to speak but were of course cut off by Misha's voice.

"You never know what?" he asked, making his way into the kitchen.

"What she could say next" you immediately said.

"Who do you mean by 'she'?" he asked with a frown.

"Maison" Vicki said with a big smile "She just said her first word, and guess who owns a big favor to the both of us" she grinned and Misha couldn't help but smile too.

"She- she actually said her first word?" he said and looked at Maison with adoration in his eyes.

"Yeah" you said in a hoarse, but still filled with happiness, voice "She said mom"

Misha looked at you as if he could just read you and you couldn't avert your eyes from his.

"Mom" the little girl giggled again, clapping her hands and looking at you.

You looked at her then back at Misha whose look you couldn't decipher and then suddenly decided to get up, not knowing how much you could stand in the same room as him and in desperate need of some time alone for you to think.

"I'll uh- I'll take her and put her to sleep for about an hour, she's probably tired" you muttered and without daring to glance at them, you took Maison in your hands and made your way out of the kitchen and walked upstairs.

Silence followed for a while before Misha decided to break it.

"Did she uh- did she call her mom?" he asked with trembling voice.

"Yeah" Vicki said with a small smile.

"Oh dear" Misha muttered running a hand down his face.

"Misha-" Vicki's voice made him look at her "-Stop wasting any more time. It's now or never." she spoke to him with a determined voice and Misha let out a sigh.

Now or never echoing in his head.

After making sure Maison was clean and you had changed her diaper you made your way with her in your arms to her room. Dressed in new clothes you put her in her crib but as it was expected she didn't seem like sleeping any time soon.

So instead you took her in your arms and started rocking her back and forth in hopes that she was going to get some shut eye.

"You're not going to make it easy for me, are you?" you asked her, not really expecting an answer.

She merely giggled and extended her hands towards you, one of her small palms touching your cheek "Mom" she said and you couldn't help but smile down at her.

"Yeah, sweetie?" you asked once more not expecting an answer but only enjoying the feeling that her calling you mom brought to you.

She only giggled more and said excitedly "Mom".

You laughed along with her. The feeling this brought to you was truly amazing and impossible to describe. You felt your heart swell and tears well up in your eyes, happy ones this time.

Or maybe a little bit sad because the reality was much different that this.

You let out a breath and shook your head "Come on now Maison, you've got to sleep. Let's see what can I do about that." you bit your lip "A song?" you asked and she clapped her hands excited.

"A song it is then" you mumbled and starting humming a song that your mother would often sing to you as a baby, or so she had told you anyway.

You rocked her back and forth singing the lyrics softly to her like a lullaby, completely unaware of the pair of blue orbs looking at you from behind.

Misha had opened his mouth to speak but immediately stopped as soon as he came face to face with the most beautiful sight he had seen in his life. He felt a fond smile spread on his lips and his heart swell at seeing you with his daughter in his arms, singing to her to get her to sleep. He let out a soft sigh and rested his weight against the door-frame, not wanting to disturb you because honestly he didn't want you to stop. There were moments he wondered if you were a natural talent, if that's how you were with all kids but now he realized it that it was just a special connection you shared with his kids. And he truly loved that.

He felt his eyes slowly open, not really realizing when he had closed them, as he saw you make your way to Maison's crib and slowly place her there, a soft humming could still be heard but it slowly came to an end.

You stood there for a good while, just gazing down at her with adoration; wishing for the moment to never end.

You took in a sharp breath when you felt a hand on your back. You turned your head to look at Misha look at you with the most calm expression you'd ever seen on him. Pure bliss and happiness in his eyes that it really captivated you.

He stood next to you and leaned in to look at Maison sleeping peacefully in her crib. He looked at her in true awe and so did you, although you were looking at him. You slowly and reluctantly averted your eyes from him to look at the little girl.

You felt Misha rest his forehead on the side of your head but you didn't move. You didn't dare move, you didn't dare even breath. You just closed your eyes for a split second, and taking in a deep breath, at the same time breathing in Misha's cologne or natural scent you couldn't really tell. He did smell amazing, that was for sure. You enjoyed the warmth his hand that was around your back and arms brought you.

"Truly unbelievable" you heard him mutter and you opened your eyes slowly, turning to look at him.

"What?" you breathed out, not expecting this close proximity.

"Unbelievable. It is unbelievable how much she really looks like you when you sleep" he muttered and looked from you to the little girl, you doing the same.

"Yeah" you only managed to say, resting your head on his chest; eyes never leaving Maison.

"So beautiful" he muttered but you were not sure if it was about you or the little girl sleeping.

You soon realized it was the former.

You felt his hand rest on yours that was resting on the crib. Shivers ran down your spine and you couldn't help but turn to look at him. His intense blue eyes locked with yours and you instantly knew there was no going back. He had you. For good.

Having a crush on your best friend was cliche but falling in love with him when you knew that you were going to get hurt was the worst thing in the world.

"I-I'm sorry" you stuttered, pulling away from him and shaking your head.

"Wha-" he breathed out "(Y/n)-" he only managed to say before you cut him off.

"I'm sorry, Misha. I- I just- I can't do this. I'm sorry" you muttered before hurrying out of the room.

"No (Y/n)" he only managed to say as in an instant you were out of the room and running down the stairs, tears having welled up in your eyes.

"No" he breathed out as he watched you run away from him.
