"Rebekah isn't what I expected."
Oh, Elena Gilbert. A clueless girl, really.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Caroline asked her, brows furrowed. She wasn't sure if it was a compliment or an insult.
"Well, the way Stefan described her compared to this... it's just different." Elena shook her head, exasperated. "She's over there hanging out with Katherine! Like they've been best friends for the past 500 years, not like Rebekah's entire family was hunting her down."
"Now little doppelgänger, you better be careful about what you say. That's my sister you're talking about." Kol, ever the big brother, appeared beside Bonnie and Caroline who were both watching Elena. "You almost sound...jealous. Jealous that Rebekah is over there with Katerina and not you. Interesting, isn't it?"
"Interesting, indeed." Klaus took the open spot between Caroline and Kol, giving the girl a silent greeting.
"Dude, we told you talking shit in a room full of vampires is a bad idea." Caroline groaned. "Didn't you learn this last time?"
Rebekah, Katherine and Sage, who had joined, shared a small laugh listening to their conversation.
"Are you being serious right now?" Elena laughed, looking at her friends for support but finding grimaces looking back at her. "Are you seriously implying that I'm jealous of Rebekah of all people?"
"Watch your tone." Klaus pointed at her. "And no, not implying. He said it, outright."
"Can she not hear when it's not in her favour?" Kol whispered to Bonnie Bennett, who looked to be fiddling with something in her dress pocket. She simply shook her head, looking like she was trying not to laugh.
"Look, it's obvious that she messed with Stefan. Played with his heart to have a new toy for a decade."
"Oh, but Elena, isn't that what you're doing?" Rebekah asked, joining the small crowd that had formed just outside their back door with Katherine, Freya and Sage in tow. "Stringing him along? But oh! You've got the brother too, haven't you?"
"I actually love Stefan, unlike you." Elena shot back, not quite processing what Rebekah had said.
"Really?" Klaus sounded amused, which Elena did not take as a good sign. "Did you hear that Stefan? Another doppelgänger who loves you."
Elena looked up at the balcony, seeing both Stefan and Damon being restrained by Elijah, and being silenced by Freya.
"You say that you're so independent, yet you get your siblings to do your bidding for you?" Elena's eyes narrowed, not catching the warning looks she got from Bonnie and Caroline. "So independent, yet the second Klaus tells you to do something, it's done immediately."
"I suggest you watch the words that come out of your mouth, little doppelgänger." Klaus stepped, smirking when Elena took a step back. He heard Elijah hit one of the Salvatores on the back of the head for trying to escape. "You should know that Rebekah has a worse temper than I, it would be in your best interest to not trigger it. If you insult my baby sister again, I will rip you apart, piece by piece and feed you to your boyfriends. Do I make myself clear?"
Silence
"I'm sure our brothers would be quite happy to join you, Nik." Rebekah startled Elena out of her state of shock.
She nodded her head, looking to Caroline and Bonnie for support.
"Perfect! We do have a ball to attend, so do keep your thoughts to yourself for the rest of the night, would you?" Elijah threw Stefan and Damon down, adjusting his jacket as he spoke. He nodded to himself as the Salvatores groaned loudly, now that the spell had been released, before heading inside with his siblings.
"Seriously?" Elena exclaimed, trying to be quiet, "You guys didn't stick up for me at all!"
"Elena, these are the Original Vampire's we're talking about." Caroline sighed. "We stand no chance."
"Bon?"
"Look, I love you Lena, but things were finally calming down." Bonnie shrugged, getting ready to head inside. "I was enjoying the ball until that whole shit show."
"So was I..." Caroline said quietly, knowing they'd all hear her anyway.
Bonnie and Caroline lingered for a moment longer, before deciding to head back in.
"Are you guys okay?' Elena finally asked the two brothers, who were now standing and looking semi-put together.
"Just peachy!" Damon rolled his eyes. "Everything's great in Vampireville!"
"Damon, can you please be serious for once?" Elena groaned.
"God, Elena, we were both just trapped by Elijah because you couldn't keep your opinions to yourself in a house full of original vampires, whose hearing is a fuck ton better than ours!" Damon nearly yelled.
Stefan grabbed his arm.
"Elena, things are already tense as it is," Stefan told her, trying to calm the situation. "We really don't need the originals coming after us for another thing."
"Stefan..."
"Just stay out of trouble tonight, okay, Elena?"

As the children of Esther laughed and talked amongst themselves, two people were watching from a different plane of existence.
Observing.
"She is finally happy."
"Yes, she is." A hum resonated between them. "Their bond has become impossibly stronger, however many troubles are still brewing."
"Is it almost time?"
"Yes, but there is still work to be done." The woman smiled, holding her hand out. "Come along, Henrik."
"Yes, Ayana."
━━━ ✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:* ━━━ AUTHORS NOTE so it's been almost 3 years since this story got an update, which is crazy to me. It felt like I updated it a few months ago. To be completely honest, I do re read my own stories quite often and I find a lot of things I don't like about them. I've been considering doing a re-write of Over Again and Little Wolf, and was wondering what your thoughts are on it?
anyways, I'm working on updating every story (hopefully) twice!! I think destiny rewritten will be next? don't hold me to that though 😭
also also, will be making new gifs soon because these ones are from so long ago 🙈
