Accha response dena! (One last time)

FAHAD
I turn off the ignition of my SUV and step out onto the soft sand. The sound of waves crashing against the shore is a familiar comfort. This is why we love spending most of our holidays here.

I walk up the short path towards the beach house and glance down at the watch on my wrist. Laiba gifted it to me 3 years ago. It's 7:26pm precisely.

I reach out and ring the doorbell steeling myself for whatever was about to happen next. The door opens. I look down to see my five-year-old son, Saim, his cheeky grin lighting up his face.

My gaze shifts to my daughter, Inaya, who is sitting near the sofa on her knees, intently coloring something. She has always been very creative enthusiast. She is also excellent in studies. My daughter definitely got all that from me.

My attention shifts back to my son. He is still giggling. I raise my eyebrows asking him the reason for his excitement.

He gestures for me to come closer, and I bend down to match his height.

He leans in, covering his mouth with his hand as he whispers in my ears, "mumma. gusssaa."

Little man is enjoying this huh?

I raise an eyebrow closing the front door and look towards the kitchen. The loud sound of clattering dishes giving away the fact that begum is angry.

I sign Saim that I will talk to his mama and walk inside.

I fake a cough in an attempt to get Laiba's attention.
"Assalamualaikum"

Laiba turns in my direction but does not respond to the greeting. Silent treatment is one of her ways of expressing her anger that I loathe. I  cannot stand her not talking to me.

I move closer to her, resting my neck on her shoulder and placing my hands on her waist. "Laiba, meri jaan" I murmur, but she swiftly pulls away, using all her strength to remove my hand from her body. Undeterred, I catch hold of her hand and press kisses to it looking into her eyes.

She likes it. But will not admit. Despite her attempts to resist, I can feel her demeanor soften as she responds to my touch. The tension in her body begins to ease, and I know that she is slowly starting to thaw.

"Baat Mat karo mujh se"

"Tum kya chahti ho mein kya karu?" She stays silent.

"Kaan pakdu? Ya gaana gau?"

"NO Baba" Our daughter Inaya shouts for the living hall as soon as I mention singing. She probably already covered her ears. Come on, I don't sing that bad now.

I hear Laiba's chuckle. Finally. She has a smile on her face. Her gaze turns towards me and her face immediately hardens as she rolls her eyes at me continuing her work.

"Tum bhool gaye" she tells in a low voice.

"Kya?" I act clueless.

"Kuch nahi." She snaps back, her tone tinged with irritation.

"Tum jao apni meeting attend karo. Koi aur baat yaad rakhne ka time kaha hai tumhare paas"

I lied. In fact I didn't go to work today. I was busy planning the surprise for tomorrow.
It's our anniversary. We've been together for nine incredible years, and our love has only grown stronger with each passing day. She's made me into this family man. The kids and our love have become my entire world. Heck there's nothing more important for me and she thinks I'd forget what tomorrow is.
