Hermione, Ron, and Bena lay in a huge canopy bed in the Head of Household's apartments; Sirius had thought Verbena would want her own space

"And yet," Rebekah said, feeling nothing but volcanic jealousy, "you're both with her"

"I kidnapped them," Bena smiled as if it was her biggest accomplishment to date

Hermione rolled her eyes, "you offered"

"We accepted," Ron grinned. Poking her in the ribs, "no diabolical plans necessary"

Hermione had draped herself over the bottom of the bed, her head resting on a pilfered feathered pillow. Ron however used Bena's belly as his pillow

"Why wouldn't I," he justified. "You're very comfy to lie on, Bena"

There were smile lines around her eyes, "thanks Ron"

"Do you think I was too harsh?"

"Nope." Hermione pinched her calf. "Ow."

"Bena," she exhaled deeply. "If you could, you would run her through with your trident"

"No matter what, for better or worse, she is still Ron's mum." Verbena declared, "I wouldn't do that"

Ron looked up at the ceiling, there were constellations glowing. "It's just... after Percy"

"What happened with Percy?" Bena's calf was pinched harder. "I'm thinking about running you through with my trident"

"I'd smother before you'd even sit up," Hermione scoffed

"He sided with the Ministry," Ron accepted lamely. "But when everything happened... it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would."

Kol's face was soft, "it is sad you know how bitter betrayal tastes so young"

"It wasn't..." Ron said sounding just the same, hugging Bena just that bit tighter. "It hurt, course it hurt, he's my brother. But mum..."

"Mrs Weasley always wanted her children to work at the Ministry," Hermione explained when Ron couldn't. "Percy did that. It was his whole life... And she told him to give it up"

Bonnie understood. How could she not.
She was a girl. Then she was a witch. Told to do this, told to do that, uphold the balance of nature, vampires are wrong, listen to the ancestors, help humans, keep everyone safe.

She doesn't know the person staring back in her reflection anymore.

Then suddenly... she dreamed

Saw flashes of a girl, called Verbena Potter. And ended up at Mikaelson Manor.

Her choice. And her choice alone

Bena paused in running her right hand through Ron's flaming orange hair. "Do you think your mum would make you choose?"

"She wouldn't." Ron kissed the back of her free hand, "'cause she'll know I'll choose my family. This family"

"And here I thought you have the emotional range of a teaspoon," Hermione wondered aloud

"Piss off"
