Chapter 5: A Desperate Cover-Up
Taehyung looked at Jungkook with a curious expression. "Sorry, but you don't look like a student. You look more like... a CEO or something."
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat as he thought, "Shit, did he recognize me? What should I say? Should I tell him no, no, I'm just a student?" But he didn't want to risk blowing his cover, so he tried to think fast.
"Oh, no, no, I'm definitely a student," Jungkook said, trying to sound convincing. "I just... uh... have a very mature face, that's all."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "A mature face? But... you're carrying a briefcase and wearing a suit. And you're always on your phone, looking like you're in the middle of a business deal."
Jungkook laughed nervously. "Oh, this? Oh, no, I'm just... uh... doing a project for school. Yeah, that's it. A project on... on... business strategy."
Taehyung looked skeptical, but Jungkook tried to keep up the charade. "Yeah, I'm just a very dedicated student, that's all. I like to dress up and carry a briefcase to get into character."
Taehyung chuckled. "Well, I guess that's one way to learn, but... I'm not buying it, Jungkook."
Jungkook's heart sank. He knew he wasn't fooling Taehyung, but he hoped he could keep up the act long enough to get out of this situation without being discovered.
: A Desperate Cover-Up
Taehyung looked at Jungkook with a curious expression. "But you look a bit old... I mean, you don't look like a student too me " Taehyung rise his eyebrows
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat as he thought, "Shit, did he recognize me? What should I say? Should I tell him no, no, I'm just a student?" But he didn't want to risk blowing his cover, so he tried to think fast.
"Oh, because I'm not a student... I'm a teacher," Jungkook said, trying to sound confident. "Yes, teacher in business. Yeah, I'm... uh... very experienced in my field."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "A teacher? But... you're so young."
Jungkook laughed nervously. "Ah, yes, well, I'm 28 years old, so I can be a teacher, right?"
Taehyung looked surprised, but then a smile spread across his face. "Oh, you're 28? Then it's okay! I thought you were like 26 or something!"
Jungkook let out a sigh of relief, glad that Taehyung seemed to be buying his story. "Yeah, no, I'm just a young-looking 28-year-old, that's all!"
Taehyung chuckled. "Well, I guess that explains it! You're just a young prodigy, huh?"
Jungkook laughed nervously, trying to play along. "Yeah, something like that! Just a young guy who's really passionate about teaching business strategy!"
Taehyung nodded, seeming to accept Jungkook's explanation. "Well, I'm glad we cleared that up! I was starting to think you were some kind of corporate spy or something!"
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat at the mention of "corporate spy", but he tried to keep his cool. "Ha, no, no, nothing like that! Just a dedicated teacher, that's all!"
Taehyung smiled. "Well, I'm glad to have you as a teacher, then! Maybe you can teach me a thing or two about business."
Jungkook's mind raced as he tried to think of a way to extricate himself from this situation. "Ah, yes, of course! I'd be happy to... uh... mentor you in business strategy!"
A Teachable Moment
Taehyung leaned in, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So, Teacher Jungkook, what's your secret to success? How did you become a professor at such a young age?"
Jungkook's mind raced as he tried to come up with a convincing answer. "Ah, well, it's just a combination of hard work and... uh... natural talent, I guess."
Taehyung nodded, seeming to accept the explanation. "I see. Well, I'm sure you have a lot to teach us. Can you tell us a little bit about your background?"
Jungkook hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "Uh, well... I graduated from a top university and... uh... worked my way up the corporate ladder, I guess."
Taehyung's eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn't press the issue. "I see. Well, I'm sure you'll be a great addition to our faculty, Teacher Jungkook."
But then, Taehyung's expression turned curious again. "Hey, wait a minute... I've been thinking. If you're a professor here, why haven't I seen you around before? You're not exactly hard to miss, you know."
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat as he tried to come up with a convincing answer. "Oh, uh... well... I've been on sabbatical, I guess. Yeah, that's it. I've been traveling and doing research, and I just got back recently."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "Sabbatical? But... you're only 28. Don't you think that's a bit young for a sabbatical?"
Jungkook laughed nervously. "Ah, well... I'm just a bit of a prodigy, I guess. Yeah, that's it. A prodigy who likes to travel and do research."
Taehyung looked skeptical, but he didn't press the issue. "I see. Well, I'm glad to have you back, Teacher Jungkook. I'm sure you'll be a great asset to our department."
Jungkook let out a sigh of relief, glad to have dodged another bullet. But he knew he couldn't keep up this charade forever. He needed to come up with a plan to extricate himself from this situation before things got any worse.
