I opened my eyes, looking around. Vines and towering trees covered my vision as the red evening sun shone straight onto my face through gaps in the trees.
My body was surprisingly almost uninjured with the worst injury I had being some minor scrapes, nothing that wouldn't heal within a few hours.
'Oh, you're awake.'
My entire body shuddered, getting goosebumps as I turned around, searching for the source of the voice, but finding nothing.
'Do not worry. I'm not your enemy.'
"Who are you? Are you the one that saved me?"
"Yes, to your second question. As for the first, you will soon find out when you arrive at my dwelling.""What makes you think I will arrive at your dwelling?" I responded curtly.
"Well, for one, I am the only one who can get you back home safely, so I advise you to make haste." The voice responded.
Directions somehow got telepathically transferred to my mind, and I followed them, approaching as fast as I could.
I stepped into a crevice between two rocks, finding myself falling down into some sort of cave. Using wind magic, I reoriented myself, landing gracefully.
"Hello, child. We finally meet."
When I saw the being who had been helping me, my stomach churned.
...
Mana rotation - the act of absorbing mana subconsciously, outside of meditation. Sylvia had refused to tell me the name of this skill, so this was what I came up with.
It was quite a genius usage of mana, entirely foreign for someone like me who was new to the concept of even absorbing it from the air. The Ki in my old world was produced inwardly, and was much less flexible.
My daily activities consisted of training, meditating, and generally talking to Sylvia, who always had some stories to tell when I was bored.
Like this, nearly four months had passed.
"Sylvia, please, tell me what's going on with your wound! It's only gotten bigger than before. You saying it was only a fester every now and then was clearly a lie!"
Yes, she was sacrificing her life so I could meet my family.
She smiled sheepishly, admitting that I was right. "I am dying, Art. I have been dying for a long time now, but you mustn't blame yourself. I would have died with or without you."
When she finished speaking, a blinding glow assaulted my retinas.
She was a dragon.
"Now that I am in this form, we do not have much time. I am what you refer to as a dragon, but my true race is an Asura, basically what amounts to a god to you humans, and so is yours. Your pale skin, deep purple eyes, and your dark orange mana core at such a young age, those are all the hallmarks of an asura, child. I do not know why your body is of Asuran origin, you will have to discover that yourself." As she finished speaking, she handed me a rainbow colored stone wrapped in one of her feathers.
"Make sure to keep this wrapped in my feather, as they are attracted to its aura. Everything will be revealed to you soon. But you have the potential to change the future of the continent for good, but also for bad. The continent will soon undergo a huge shift, and you must be prepared.
They will surely contact you, trying to manipulate you through wishful thinking and false promises, but do not give in. In due course, you will have to make a choice between them, and humanity. I know this is an extremely selfish wish from me, but please, Art, when that choice comes, choose humanity."
