SO F I A 01 |a night before
I hummed and sang sweet familiar melodies while glimpsing through the cab's window. The happiness and excitement had blossomed in my heart only growing larger as the sign of my apartment enlarged.
I couldn't hold off on seeing my best friend who had to be my roommate and imagined her surprised face when she got to know about the news I was going to announce.
Lost in my thoughts while grinning like a fool I didn't realize that the cab now stopped in front of my apartment building.
"We are here, Miss." The driver, who had to be an old adorable man, called out to me.
Snapped out of my thoughts, my face flushed in embarrassment, I nodded at him and unlocked the door.
"Here, please keep the change." My soft voice spoke while handling the money. I couldn't stop smiling.
"I can't, Miss. They are just a lot." The man rejected.
"No, it's okay. Take them as a treat from me." I requested the kind man.
"If only you insist, Miss. But can I know the reason for the treat, Miss? I see you are really in a good mood." the kind driver curiously asked yet I could only awe at his wrinkled face.
"A-Actually, I just got a job today at my dream company and I'm so happy and I can't believe it. I just can't wait to tell this news to my best friend and see her reaction. You know she is just so ──" I rumbled with an excited smile, unable to prevent the excitement that ran through my nerves.
"Well, congratulations, Miss! Thank you for the treat." The driver spoke with a puzzled look, my cheeks darkened even more as I realized who I was rumbling to.
For God's sake, you need to stop blurting out to every person just to scare them away. I thought to myself before I apologized to the poor man.
"I'm sorry. It happened unconsciously. And no, Thanks to you for driving me here, Sir. You're a truly kind person." I softly said, shutting the car door.
"I can say the same, Miss. It's nice to meet you." He said smilingly, reluctantly I shyly nodded and gestured to him in gratitude before he could drive away from me.
I stood there till the cab disappeared from my sight. I took a deep breath, I glanced up, my eyes caught the twinkling sky, reminding me how the day went in a spray. Placing a smile on my lips, I waved my way toward the entrance of my apartment building before I jogged to my floor.
Excitedly unlocking the door of my apartment the smile I had on my face fell into a horrible expression as the unexpected scene unwrapped in front of my sight.
The apartment I left polish-cleaned in the very morning was now surrounded by black smoke that could enter your lungs and cough you to your end and make you dazed to spot anything. The next thing I noticed was the malodorous aroma of something burning surrounding the whole apartment, making my nose scrunched in disgust.
