(A/N - I've changed my mind about Ben and Gabby being married, they're not married, they're still boyfriend and girlfriend).
-Gabriella's POV-
I was in the middle of cleaning dishes in my dorm room when I heard banging at my door. This will be the millionth time that those jerks have been harassing me, with a huff I storm over to the door.
"Ugh! Could you jerks please stop–"
I cut myself off when I see a familiar face standing outside my door. "Ben? W-what are you doing here?" I asked, feeling a little confused but at the same time happy to see my boyfriend.
Ben looks behind him to see if anyone is around before entering my dorm room. He had a worried expression on his face. "Ben–" Ben cuts me off as he suddenly gave me a big hug.
"Oh! Gabby! I am so glad to see you. How are you? How's the college life? Hope you've been safe."
Okay, I definitely know something is up because he's acting weird. "Ben." I say as I pull away from the hug to look up at him with a questioning look. "What's going on? You didn't just come all the way here just to give me a hug, so I want a straightforward answer."
Ben sighs defeatedly and looks away for a moment before looking back at me. "What I'm about to tell you you're probably not going to believe me. But. I think we're all being hunted by someone, and they're using dinosaurs to do it."
"Benjamin, Brooklynn's death was just an accident. That doesn't mean that someone is coming after us."
"Gabs, her death wasn't an accident it was done on purpose. There are people out there wanting to... you know."
I pinch the bridge of my nose and close my eyes to think before letting go of my nose and opening my eyes.
"OK. Let's say that I do believe your ridiculous theory. What do you suggest we do?" I ask as I look up at him with my arms folded.
"Go get the others. You're the closest to Darius, so let's go get Darius first."
Before I could even reply, Ben took my hand and left my dormitory with me being forced to follow because he's holding my hand.
We leave the building and get to the parking lot where I see Ben's very old and run-down van. "You still have this old thing?" I asked as I got into the passenger seat.
Ben looks over at me with an unimpressed expression on his face. "Please don't insult my baby." He tells me to which I started giggling like a little school girl.
"Fine! Fine, I'm sorry."
After about a four hour trip from my state to where Darius lives, we finally arrive at the cabin where Darius lives.
"You know, I don't think he's gonna believe–" Ben covers my mouth and shushes me. "Shhh! We have to be careful!" He whispers.
I roll my eyes before following behind Ben towards Darius's cabin. Before we could make it to the door, Darius quickly opens the door with an electrical device in his hand.
He points it towards Ben, grunting, but Ben grabs the device by the neck. "Whoa!" Ben says as he tries to keep the electrical device away from him.
"Darius. You are home." Ben says as he looks at Darius. Darius turns off the electrical device after realising who it was. "Ben? Ben, I– What are you doing here?" Darius asked Ben as Ben stands up. "I'm never gonna get used to this." Darius says as he was referring to the height difference.
"Yeah, me neither." Ben replied.
Darius then hugs Ben as he says. "It is so great to see you." He then pulls away from Ben before asking.
"Uh, how's college?"
"Um, actually, I'm taking a little break." Ben responded as he heads inside the cabin. I follow in from behind.
"Gabby? You're here too?" Darius asked before pulling me into a hug. "Why didn't the two of you tell me you were dropping by for a visit?"
"Well—" I was about to explain why we were there when Ben suddenly turned off the lights. "Hey, would you look at this place? This is really– wow, great stuff, man."
"Uh, thanks." Darius replies as he turns the light back on after Ben goes to another spot. "Look, I know I haven't been in touch with you or, well, anyone lately, but I–"
"I remember the view here's just... breathtaking." Ben says he turns off another light and closes the blinds. "It is when it's not in the middle of the night." Darius says he turns the light back on after Ben rushes over to the kitchen area before turning off the lights again.
"You get much rainfall?" Ben asked as he peeked out of the back door. "Ben, we've known each other for a long time, and maybe it's time to tell me what you're doing here." Darius says he turns the light back again before going to sit down on a chair.
"Uh, I kinda wanted to ease into it."
"Yeah, I'd say that ship has sailed." Said Darius.
"Right. Okay. Okay. Um... [sighs] Here it goes. Try not to freak out."
I stood where I was and folded my arms, and rolled my eyes. Ben sighs before continuing. "So, that night, that awful night that... The Allosaurus–"
Darius gets up from where he was sitting. "The Allosaurus! That's what this is about. You and Gabby are tracking the Allosaurus, too." Darius says as he goes to the kitchen to grab supplies.
"What?" Ben and I asked.
"I saw it today, Ben. I'm heading after it in the morning. You and Gabby can come with me. We're gonna need more supplies. [Groans] I almost had it. I was so close. I even called Brooklynn to tell her that–"
"Wait, what? Darius... Brooklynn is dead." Ben says to Darius with a sad expression on his face, I look sad as well.
"I know. Of course, I know that." Darius replies as he turns around and looks at Ben and I. "It's just that... I guess her dads never deactivated her voicemail, so... sometimes I call her, to hear her voice, to tell her stuff, to say I'm sorry." Darius added.
My heart broke after hearing Darius admit all of that. "Darius..." I say as I go up to him before giving him a hug.
"It wasn't your fault." Ben tells Darius as I break away from the hug.
"We both know that isn't true, Ben. If I had met her that night, like I said I would, then she might–"
"No. That's why Gabby and I are here. It wouldn't have mattered. Brooklynn's death was no accident. She was targeted. That Allosaurus–"
"Is a wild animal, Ben. A mindless killer. When I finally got there, when I saw... It was a random dinosaur attack. Happens way too often these days."
"It wasn't random! There's too much coincidence. What was Brooklynn even doing there that night? She never told you, did she? And how did she and the Allosaurus end up at the same place at the same time? How did the DPW truck respond so quickly? Why wasn't her phone recovered from the scene? Something's off. I've been reading some stuff on Dark Jurassic–"
"Dark Jurassic?" Darius asked. "That website where all those randos share their weird dinosaur conspiracy theories?"
"We're actually an online community of like minded individuals who–" Ben corrects him.
"Ben."
"Some of those theories are a lot more sane than you think. Come see."
Ben goes over to the couch and sits down before opening Darius's laptop. Darius looks over at me.
"Do you believe him?"
"I don't, he just dragged me here."
