(Location: Pushkar, town near Ajmer in Rajasthan)"Be a good daughter-in-law. Don't give them a chance to complain and don't tarnish our reputation"
"Do as they tell you. Don't question back. Listen to your husband. Speak only when spoken to."
"Siya! Where the hell is my blue file, can't you do one thing properly.
Strip! you filthy slut and give me a good fuck. -- Fast ! "
"Wash these clothes and do the cleaning fast. You have to make lunch and dinner too. For any mistake you do, no dinner for you. Now work your hands fast!"
"What do you mean by she can't get pregnant? She has to fulfill her duty. Her parents didn't even pay dowry enough and now you are saying she can't even produce a child."
"Divorce paper, sign them and get out the house! Booj hai tu humare liye , pata nahi Aisa kaunsa paap Kiya tha jo tuj jaise bahu milgai"
"Talakshuda ladki ko Ghar mein rakha toh Ghar ki izzat utar jayegi. Ja yaha se, phir kabhi Laut kar mat aana. Mar gai tum humare liye"
Siya was walking on an unfamiliar path oblivious of her surrounding. Her past memories haunting her as she walked down the errie road. Ghostly echoes of the bygone days whispered through the corridors of her consciousness, replaying scenes of her so called family and their atrocities. Each memory was etched into her soul like a scar, a constant reminder of the pain she had endured.
The air was heavy as the muffling sounds echoed in the woods running parallel to the road. The branches of the trees swayed ominously, casting eerie shadows that seemed to stretch, playing tricks on the mind.
"What should I do now? I have no one. No home. No family. Where will I go? Where will I seek a shelter? What will happen now?" she mumbled to herself walking tirelessly on an unknown road not knowing where it leads.
Tears blurred her vision as her mind clouded with thoughts of uncertainty and fear gripped her bones. Although the chilly wind blew, her perspiration trickled down her temples. Not knowing where to go and what her future hold, she prayed to God for her safety.
Her head was throbbing in pain as the fresh memories of the day threatened to replay in her mind.
Her husband divorced her.
Her parents refused to accept her back.
"Why god, why?
Why can't you bless me with a child? What wrong have I done to anyone that I am bearing this punishment? Why did my husband divorce me? Just because I couldn't bear a child! How could they do this to me? Afterall is it my fault that I cant get pregnant?" She screamed trying to relieve the weight of her buried emotions.Tears streamed down her face, each droplet a silent testament to the anguish that gripped her soul. Her shoulders shook with the weight of her sorrow, her breath hitching in jagged sobs that seemed to tear through her chest.
