Chapter 12

Wednesday July 12

Yesterday, Bianca and Levi finally became a couple. I was hanging out with the two of them right now in my cabin. We're all sitting on the floor, Levi and Bianca right next to each other and me across from them.

"So why didn't you guys ever set up the TV?" Levi asks. Bianca and I shrug in response. It wasn't that we couldn't do it, it's just that no one ever had any energy or drive to do it.

At that moment, my stomach growls extremely loud. I look at Levi and Bianca's shocked faces and say, "Hey guys, I think I'm hungry."

They start laughing as I get up and start to walk out to go and get some food. I ask them if they're coming to get some but they look at each other and shake their heads.

"You're own bed, Bianca," I say with a suggestive tone then walk out.

I head over to the mess hall to find that it's pretty full. I check the time on my phone and see that it's about lunch time, explaining the fullness. I went through the line, picking up a pack of cookies and a water, then look around to see if there was anyone I knew already sitting down. I spot Kelsey, Eli and Jaxon sitting at a table and walk over.

"Hey guys," I say and sit down next to Jaxon.

Eli immediately takes one of my cookies and chomps down on it. "Thanks Lace, you're the best," he says as he devours it.

I look down at my plate, mourning the loss. "I was looking forward to that," I say.

"Why is it so hot," Jaxon says and fans himself with his shirt. "I swear it hasn't rained all summer."

I nod. "Yeah, sometimes I wish they made the mess hall inside instead of out."

"I think it's pretty this way," Kelsey says and leans back into Eli, closing her eyes and smiling, taking in the sun shine.

I shrug and roll the sleeves of my T-shirt up. Why had I decided to wear long sleeves on a hot day like this? Why had I even packed long sleeves in the first place?

"Hey Lace, can I have a cookie?" Eli suddenly asks.

"No! You annoying little-"

"Hey now, is that anyway to talk to your best friend," he interrupts, his signature smirk on his face.

"Stealing cookies is not the way a best friend acts," I counter and give him a sarcastic smile.

"You guys are hilarious, you know that?" Kelsey says, laughing.

I take another bite of my cookie and don't reply. I still can't see how Kelsey could date this guy. I mean, sure, he was good looking, really good looking for that matter. And yes, he was kinda funny and nice when he wanted to be, plus he didn't have a bad temper most of the time and...

Okay, I can see it. Weird.

"Hey do you guys still remember that handshake you did on that one Friday?" Jaxon asks.

I smile, remembering it from a couple weeks ago. "I think I still remember it," I say and do it in my head. "I mean we practiced a bunch of times so."

"That was funny," Kelsey says. "I loved how Eli couldn't beat you."

Eli laughs. "Yeah, because in real life, I would obviously win."

"Wrong," I say immediately, giving him a look. I was lying of course, Eli could pound me to a pulp if he wanted to. I was only saying these things to get him riled up.
