He could hear the sounds of someone breathing now, as he slowly moved the last few steps towards the light, and as he got close enough, he saw her there... He was glad that she was still awake...
"Michelle...? I brought you something..." Carter spoke, his eyes looking to Michelle now...
Michelle was currently sitting at her desk in her room, her small purple desk lamp keeping the room dim.
"Huh?" said Michelle, turning her head around as part of her brunette hair was slightly covering her face and her brown eyes met his. Now, he could see her in the dimly lit room slightly clearly, his hazel eyes now focusing on hers, her stare... The only light in this dark room.
"Hey..." spoke Carter, holding out a small present for her, but he was now hesitating, he was wondering if she thought of this as a date, and whether it was something that he should've even done in the first place...
"Carter Thorne..." Michelle softly spoke, softly smiling as she got up from her chair and gently walked towards Carter with that remaining soft smile. His heart was beating faster as she walked over to him, but he didn't look away from her, his eyes still on her own.
"Michelle Miller..." He says in response to her calling him by his full name, as he looked at her softly. As she was walking over to him, he thought she would reject it... He thought she wouldn't want his gift... That she would feel embarrassed... But she was coming closer to him now.
"How's my love doing on this lovely night?" Michelle suddenly spoke, her smile widening now that she was as near as possible to him, possibly inches away from his lips. His heart stopped beating for a moment, as he heard her call him "love"... The only light in the room, her eyes looking at his, and now she was brightly smiling at him.
"I'm doing quite well..." Carter spoke, his voice now suddenly sounding soft, as he smiled back at her now, before he held out the small present he had gotten for her, now slowly handing it out for Michelle, still being somewhat hesitant to do so. Michelle looked down at his gift, now taking a few steps back.
"Oh? Isn't that wonderful." Michelle chuckled, her smile still remaining on her lips as she then looked up to meet Carter's gaze.
"Yeah... It is..." He spoke, he smiled as he watched Michelle take the present, she was still smiling at him, and her gaze didn't seem to have left him for a second as she did.
"I got you something..." Carter then said slowly.
"Yeah, I see that, but the best gift I have ever gotten was you." Michelle then turned her smile into a small smirk.
Carter's heart stopped beating again as he was stunned by the last thing she said, "Me?" Carter asked, he felt his cheeks beginning to burn as he slowly nodded his head. That he was the best gift she'd ever had.
"I wanted to get you something. I thought you deserved it." Carter explained as he smiled back at her and now also began to smirk slightly thinking about it. Michelle then chuckled softly once again as she now obtained the gift, now slowly unwrapping it to see what was inside. He had made the present himself, the wrapping was made by himself, and he had made sure to take his precious time with the present, that it was wrapped quite nicely, otherwise it'd end another way. Michelle was even surprised on how it nicely it was wrapped on the outside. Inside was a small wooden box, it was a small gift perhaps. Carter had put a lot of thought into it, and she would see that as she opened it.
She opened the small wooden box, and inside it was a small metal pin that he had made, the design was simple as it was a spider with a web behind it. Sure, it was a small gift, a small token of appreciation, but he had made sure to put a lot of detail into it.
"I'm sorry. I don't have much to give, but I hope you enjoy it, nonetheless..." Carter spoke to her in a low but gentle tone, as he watched her inspect the small pin. Without hesitation nor consent, Michelle simply grinned and pecked his cheek without saying a word. His cheeks were on fire now as he felt her lips touch his cheek, his heart was beating faster and he became more and more stunned as she had done that, but he didn't let himself say anything, he couldn't, after what she had said about him being the best present she'd had. He was speechless.
"I love it." Michelle simply whispered those words in Carter's red and warm ear.
"You do...?" He spoke now, he had thought that she would hate it, as it was such a small gift, but she had said she loved it, perhaps because Carter was her sweet and one of the most normal boyfriends Michelle's ever had in her life. She wouldn't dare mention her exes to him, he'd go as crazy as a guy on fentanyl. He smiled as he watched her look over the small spider pin, his heart was beating out of his chest now, as it felt like she did mean it when she said he was the best present she's ever had.
"Well, as long as it's made with care and love, that's all that matters. I don't care if it's expensive or not. I love gifts that were truly made from deep down in the heart." Michelle spoke.
"I did put a lot of time and heart into it. I tried to make it look nice." Carter spoke. He was happy to hear that she had liked the gift, he felt his heart beating even more now, he had been right with his assumption then.
"I'm glad to hear that you love it." He spoke, smiling back at her, he couldn't be happier right now, especially since she had accepted his gift, he was certain she'd hate it, but she didn't. He had put his heart and soul into this gift, and he was glad to see that her efforts weren't wasted
"I am certainly happy." Carter then added, not able to stop himself from saying what he felt, and now his tone was slightly giddy and almost childlike. After hearing his voice, Michelle softly giggled at him.
"Am I being a little too childish..?" Carter asked, he knew that he sounded almost giddy and almost too excited on this, though he didn't realize how childlike his tone actually sounded. He was too happy to even notice though, and he smiled at her, still feeling his cheeks burn from her tendered kiss.
"I don't care for how childish you are. I like you being happy." Michelle giggled once again.
"Then I guess I don't have to hide just how happy I am, right?" He asked, a hopeful and playful tone in his voice, as he couldn't help himself from feeling so giddy now, especially since he had thought that she wouldn't like it. All of his previous fears had completely disappeared, and now all he felt was pure joy.
"Why hide your happiness, right?" She tilted her head, still having her grin on her red lips.
"Well, I know that some are embarrassed by having such big emotions over something so small. Like how excited I am over this, you accepting my gift... I was certain you were gonna hate the pin that I made... I though you'd have some sort of reaction of "Ugh..." or "Is this all you could come up with?"" Carter said, not wanting to admit how nervous that he had been earlier of how she'd react to the present. Michelle chuckled softly at his response and said:
"Oh no, not at all."
"Really...?" spoke he now, looking at her with hope, he had thought he did it wrong, that he should've done more, or brought something more expensive for her. He smiled softly at her, he wasn't ashamed of his emotions anymore, of the excitement he felt over giving her the gift, especially since she liked it, he was just happy.
"Yeah. Hey, what time is it?" Michelle asked softly, tilting her head. It was pretty late at night, Michelle knew that for sure; she simply just wanted Carter to tell her the time for no apparent reason. He looked over at the time on his watch, "It's currently 1:30AM..." He spoke, he couldn't see her expression clearly as the entire room was dark except for the desk lamp making it slightly dim, but she'd asked the time. Maybe there was a different reason for why she asked.
