"This is it?" Colton asked, pulling into the driveway of the Mayflower's. I nodded and grasped his arm which calmed me. I didn't know what I expected telling Colton everything I knew but I was definitely not having him come with me. He had insisted, saying he didn't want me going on my own anymore. It could be dangerous. So, here we were, in the driveway of my half brother's house, wanting to get more answers out of them.
"Ok. So, I think it would be wise just for me to ask the questions." I said, turning towards Colton and patting his arm. The car was put into park and turned off before he looked at me. His dark eyes regarded me with a hurt expression but then were quickly changed into assisting his smile.
"That's fine." Colton said, taking my hand and squeezing it. His were warm and mine were surprisingly cool. Noticing this, he blew on them to create heat. Goosebumps went up my covered arms.
"Then, let's do this." I said, letting go of his grasp and getting out of the car. My feet planted on the pavement, almost knocking myself over with my off-white short heels. I steadied myself and grabbed the handle of the car, my white skirt with flowers stitched around moving in sync with me.
Colton was in front of the car with a smirk on his face. I shook my head with a smirk on my own face and made my way over to him, slipping my hand through his.
We left the chilly day behind us as we walked to their front door and I rang the doorbell. It was loud inside of the house, ringing to make sure everyone knew there was a visitor at the door. I could hear voices inside that were coming closer and closer to the door.
The door opened, revealing Delilah with food around the rim of her mouth. When she saw me, her eyes lit up and she bounded into my arms, again almost knocking me over. I patted her head while I laughed and looked down at her sun-bleached blonde hair. It was in natural curls that went down her back, almost making it as long as her sister's.
"Aunt Iris!" Delilah said, pulling away and smiling.
"Hey, Delilah! Do you know where your dad and grandma are?" I asked, looking past her into their big house. It was the same beautiful house I had entered before with its high ceilinged walls and modern furniture. The only difference was that now the dogs were inside of the house. They were in the living room, laying down next to each other.
"Yes." Delilah said, running away. Colton looked at me and I shrugged. I lead him into their house, getting sounds of awe from him. I closed the front door and watched as the dogs bodies went up and down because of breathing. Lee had informed me that they were all males because he needed some kind of male influence in the house and that their names were Bolt with the green collar, Echo with the red collar and Sonic with the blue collar. If my kids were here, they would have gone crazy.
"Welcome back, Iris!" My brother called, breaking me from my thoughts. I looked up and there stood Lee with a large smile on his face. He looked different today without a suit that I usually saw him in. He was wearing athletic shorts and a muscle shirt which brought out his muscles both in his arms and chest.
"Hey, Lee." I greeted, taking my shoes off and walking towards him. I gave him a hug and could smell his cologne mixed with sweat that he must have gotten because of just working out. I pulled away, hoping that the sweat didn't get on my light blue bottom down shirt.
"What brings you and..." Lee trailed off, noticing Colton for the first time.
"This is my husband, Colton." I replied, grabbing Colton's hand and bringing him forward. Lee held out his hand with a smile and Colton shook it, smiling back.
"Nice to meet you, Colton." Lee said, letting go of Colton's hand and clasping his own in front of him. "What brings you guys here?"
"I have some more questions for you guys." I answered. Lee nodded and ushered us into the living room where we had discussed my father that last time I was here. I took hold of Colton's hand before sitting down and having him sit down on the plush white couches next to me. His hand let go of mine and he instead put an arm around my waist.
