I followed behind Lee's Mercedes Benz to a small but rich neighborhood. The houses were as big as my own and only fit four on the street. Two on one side and two on the other. Lee pulled into the driveway of a house that had gray sidings. It was the largest one on the street with a view of the small lake that sat behind the the neighborhood. I could see boats gliding across the water at a high speed, some pulling tubes behind and some pulling skiers behind them.
I parked my car behind Lee's which he pulled into the first two-door garage of the home. I was accustomed to large houses that the owners were so rich they didn't know what to do with the money so the size of the gigantic house didn't surprise me. The house had at least four floors not including the basement and a large backyard that stretched so far that I could not see the end of it. I did notice three Dalmatians playing in the backyard with a ball that someone had to be throwing.
Lee had explained to me that he had his mother move in with them when she had retired so that he could take care of her. He also told me that she was one of the sweetest women I would ever meet. He warned me though about talking about my father. She might trail to much on if I asked her about him and I was planning to now that I was here.
I got out of the car and locked it, making my way over to Lee who had been waiting for me next to his car. I looked around the large garage and saw at least three sports cars in the three two-door garage. I smiled.
"Like collecting cars?" I asked, looking back at Lee who was admiring a yellow Camaro with black stripes.
"Oh, yes. It's always been a hobby of mine." Lee said, gazing at me with a smile. "Come on. It's time for you to meet the Mayflower family."
I nodded, finally hearing the sound of my high heels against the pavement of the garage. He led me up a set of stairs that only held three and to the door to get inside. He opened it and let me in.
My mouth dropped open. It was a lovely house with high ceilings and everything modern. A Modern kitchen, modern wallpaper; most likely picked out by the woman of the house, and modern furniture that probably cost him a fortune. Little girl's toys were scattered around the house and a huge slider door led out to the backyard and let in a large amount of natural light. I could see the three Dalmatians clearly in the backyard with different colored collars on to differentiate them from the other.
"This house is so lovely." I commented, taking one last look before turning back towards Lee.
"It is, isn't it? The Ranglewood Department Store has done well and it bought this magnificent house." Lee said, smiling.
"Wow." I said.
Suddenly, a woman's voice came from somewhere in the house. It was loud and young and coming towards us. The woman was talking, quickly, with an almost urgency in her voice as if something was wrong. The voice got closer and closer finally showing the true nature of the provider.
It was a young woman at least in her thirty's that looked just like the woman in the picture on Lee's desk. She had rusty brown hair that shined in the natural light and her eyes were the green of healthy grass and were hidden by very stylish Tiffany glasses. The woman was talking on the phone and when she saw me her phone dropped onto the floor. Her mouth was open and she was looking from me to Lee like we had done something that couldn't be named.
"Lee, what's going on here?" The woman said with a scowl on her face. She crossed her arms on her chest and didn't bother to pick up the phone that was now laying broken on the ground.
Lee touched my back and pushed me towards his wife who was not looking very happy. I tried to smile but she was making it very hard. Lee let go of my back and walked over to his wife, putting a strong arm around her.
