Charlie sat on the edge of his bed, scrolling aimlessly through his phone. It had been a few days since the school trip to the zoo, but the memory of Nick’s warm smile and kind eyes lingered in his mind. He couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more between them, something that deserved to be explored.

With a sigh, Charlie opened Instagram and began to scroll through his feed. Suddenly, an idea struck him. He searched for "Nick," followed by the name of the primary school he remembered hearing during their brief conversation. A few profiles popped up, and after a moment of browsing, he found it: Nick’s profile. The display picture was of Nick laughing with a group of friends, confirming it was the right person.

Charlie hesitated for a moment, his thumb hovering over the follow button. Taking a deep breath, he tapped it. Almost immediately, he received a notification that Nick had accepted his follow request. Heart pounding, he quickly began to scroll through Nick’s posts.

There were photos of Nick enjoying brunch with friends, and playing fetch with his adorable dog. Each image made Charlie’s heart swell a bit more. Nick’s love for life and genuine nature shone through in every post.

Gathering his courage, Charlie decided to send a message.

Charlie: Hey, Nick! It's Charlie from the zoo tour. Hope you're doing well. I was wondering if you'd be up for grabbing a coffee sometime?

He hit send and leaned back, nerves buzzing. Moments later, his phone buzzed with a new message.

Nick: Hey, Charlie! Great to hear from you. I'd love to catch up. When are you free?

Charlie’s heart leapt. He quickly typed back.

Charlie: How about tomorrow afternoon?

Nick: Perfect. There's a little café near the park. How does 3 PM sound?

Charlie: Sounds great. See you then!

The next day, Charlie arrived at the café a bit early, nervously fiddling with his phone as he waited. He couldn’t help but feel excited, a hopeful anticipation building inside him. When he saw Nick walk in, his heart skipped a beat. Nick spotted him and smiled, waving as he approached.

“Hey, Charlie,” Nick said, sliding into the seat across from him. “Glad you could make it.”

“Of course,” Charlie replied, trying to keep his voice steady. “It’s great to see you again.”

They ordered their coffees and quickly fell into an easy conversation. Charlie found himself captivated by Nick’s stories about his hiking adventures and weekend brunches with friends. There was a warmth and sincerity to Nick that made Charlie feel comfortable, like he could be himself without any pretences.

“So, how did you end up working at the zoo?” Nick asked, genuinely curious.

Charlie chuckled. “I’ve always loved animals. I studied zoology in college and started volunteering at the zoo. Eventually, it turned into a full-time job. I love being able to share my passion with visitors, especially kids. Their excitement is contagious.”

Nick smiled. “It was obvious how much you love your job. You really made an impression on us.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” Charlie said, feeling a warm glow at Nick’s words. “And what about you? What do you enjoy doing outside of teaching?”

Nick’s eyes lit up. “I love spending time outdoors, hiking with my dog, Nellie. She’s a ball of energy and keeps me active for an old dog like her. And I enjoy baking and hanging out with my mates"

They talked for hours, the conversation flowing effortlessly. As the afternoon turned into evening, Charlie realized how much he was enjoying Nick’s company. There was a connection between them, something deep and unspoken that felt right.

As they prepared to leave, Charlie hesitated, a nervous excitement bubbling up. “Nick, I really enjoyed today. I’d love to see you again, if you’re interested.”

Nick’s smile was warm and genuine. “I’d like that too, Charlie. How about we plan something for next weekend?”

“Sounds perfect,” Charlie replied, feeling a rush of happiness.

They exchanged numbers, and as they parted ways, Charlie felt like he was walking on air. There was something special about Nick, something that made Charlie feel hopeful about the future. As he watched Nick walk away, he couldn’t help but smile, eager to see what this unexpected connection would bring.

The days passed quickly, filled with a flurry of texts and late-night conversations. Both Nick and Charlie found themselves thinking about each other more and more, their bond growing stronger with each interaction. Each message, each call, only deepened their feelings, leaving them both eagerly anticipating their next meeting.
