Dominic
I barged from my office barreling from the corridors of my club.
Soldiers parted for me. I ignored if I rammed into someone or I looked like a madman.
Max's voice followed closely yet it was distant. He was yelling on the phone something about the car my brain clouded with Phoenix's text.
He had texted one single word.
Danger. It was the safe word. If someone was in grave danger they would have to text it to anyone.
I swallowed the lump of air tightening in my throat.
Last night she was in my arms.
Soft and willing.
Then she had asked the inevitable question and I had lied. Well, not precisely. I resisted telling the truth. Because she would get hurt. She knew what my silence meant, so she pushed me away. Locked herself inside her room. After yelling and banging on the door like a banshee I gave up. I thought it would be better if I gave her some time. I couldn't sleep at night. I stared at her door as if I had the magic to open it.
I should have told her. She would've pushed me nonetheless however she would've been safe.I knew keeping her on house arrest would piss her off but that was the best way to keep her safe. To keep her to myself. My gut instinct warned me she would do anything to know about her past. I should have been ready but not this.
Reaching the ground floor I round the SUV already waiting for us.
"Get out," I order the driver.
I'm about to haul his ass out when a hand slumps on my shoulder.
"You are going to cause havoc." Max tries to shove me aside.
"Fuck off." I snarl snatching the driver by the collar. His eyes widen and he stumbles however I never get to yank him out. I'm being hauled and whirled my back colliding with the SUV facing my loyal men.
My brothers.
Max and Diego."You ride that in this maddening state and you'll cause everyone their demise including the innocents on the road." Max snarls in my face. I battle their hold on me registering his words and combating to process the situation.
"You need to get your head straight." Max is calm. He's never calm. He's goofy and jolly most of the time. However, he's deadly when he's calm.
I glare at him my nostrils flare with white-hot anger but I manage to nod.
Once inside the car, I can't help but think about her.
"Trace them," I order through the gritted teeth. My tie seems to suffocate me and I yank it out popping the collar button but I don't give a shit about it.
"Already on it." Max delivers. He's so calm working on the gun.
My mind scatters with millions of kaleidoscopic images of Liliana.
Liliana getting hurt. Her lifeless body comes into my view beaten and bloodied. Her limbs missing. Images of her back flash in front of me brandishing with more scars. New scars. My palms ball into fists and I fight the urge to drive the vehicle myself.
"We have their location," Diego instructs.
"Drive fast," I almost rip everyone apart.
"It's the Skyline Hotel."
"Fuck." Max curses. "Get us inside via the back route. I'll make the arrangements." Max speedily dials speaking monotonously into the phone. My mind freezes on her images of getting assaulted.
I gulp.
My throat dry and itchy."How much time till we reach there?"
"More 15 minutes boss." Diego supplies.
"Dominic, we are entering via the back route. I want you to be calm." I'm sure at this point Max wishes to be dead.
"Are you even listening?" He booms.
I snap my gaze at him.
"It's Skyline. People come there to party and enjoy. We don't want any civilians getting hurt. Do you get it?" He snarls back in my face.
I grunt a yes."Ivan said her location is on the 15th floor. There's a total of three suite rooms on that floor. They are in the 15C." Diego concentrates on the location tracker. That doesn't make me calm.
After what seems like an eternity we reach the hotel. We drive through the back route. Taking the abandoned corridors meant for the VIPs. Reaching the elevator Max punches in the floor button. Those 30 seconds seem like an eternity. The elevator pings opening the doors.
"This way boss," Diego chases down the corridor.
He enters the suite room which is not locked. Diego kneels where Phoenix is lying. I pay little attention to Phoenix.
I freeze when I glimpse her. I gulp. It feels like I just swallowed sand and then I run.
"Liliana," her body is laid on the couch. I take her into my arms my palm cupping her cheek. Her head lolls on the side. Her delicate body is warm. Frantically I see for the pulse it's there but weak. Relief washes over me. I watch for the injuries but I can't locate any. No sight of blood or fight.
"Phoenixx," Diego booms.
My attention snaps to Diego. He's cradling Phoenix in his arms."What's wrong with him?" I rasp. My voice hoarse.
"I don't know. He's not breathing. Pulse is weak," Diego's eyes are wild as he watches me.
"How's she?" Max gazes at Liliana.
"Unconscious," I gulp glancing down at Liliana."I'll check the suite." I nod barely registering his words.
"Fuck." Max swears loudly halting at the kitchen.
"What is it?" Diego is on his feet.
I lay Liliana gently on the couch sprinting towards them.
"I think we'll need more men," Diego swears delivering orders on the phone.
I reach them stopping in my tracks. The Capo. He and his man Matteo lying on the floor.
"Unconscious. Both of them." Max examines them getting up.
"You need to call The Capo." Max's eyes meet mine.Yes, I had forgotten about it.
The news is not officially out yet. But I whom Max is referring to.
I know who.
I dial his number he picks up on the second ring."You need to come over." I don't know if my voice delivers that something is not right or if he can foresee it.
There's a pause on the other side before he speaks.
"I'm here."
