Regal walls, lace curtains, lit candles, exquisite chandelier and the slow music had set the perfect ambiance for the gathered crowd of couples in the ballroom. Everything was just perfect, in order to make the night memorable for every soul present there. Premium drinks being an inevitable component were served to everyone at intervals. The marble floor had many couples swaying with the tune of the violin playing in distance. The royal ball was one the most awaited days of the year but this year was special. For the first time neighbor kingdom was also invited.
The emollient night cascaded upon the castle, slowly drowning everyone present inside in love. The tension in air was high but not more than the today's star couple who had almost everyone's eyes on them. Everyone watched them in awe. It was witnessed for the first time- Prince Aaron and the Princess Kayla of Walter kingdom together. It was assumed that their enmity must have found its end but had it? They were well-known for their animosity but the reason behind it was unknown to everyone, even to them.
Her hands on his shoulder, his hands on her waist, they both fit in each other's arms perfectly as if they were especially carved for each other. They swayed to the slow music so gracefully that it was doubtful if they had ever danced before. Tonight was different, absolutely different. The dance may have been forced but the feelings that were unfolding within them were real and...somewhat terrifying.
The latent feelings that were usually under-powered by the useless bitter enmity.
The eye contact, their hands and the closeness, increased the tension between them which was instigating them to give in, give in to those feelings blooming in their hearts. It wasn't unknown, no, just hidden.
He swayed her body in the air with the music. She landed, her hands on his chest, so close that their breaths mingled. He knew it would be hard for him to control himself this time, like always. Is it the time to confess? It was daring to maintain the eye contact, both wanted to break it yet none of them did. At last, she came back to reality. A light blush crept up her cheeks. She lowered her eyes, held her gown and dashed out of their without looking back. Everyone stared at the scene yet no one spoke, that was the power he held, the power that people respected or.... feared while he just stood there trying to understand... himself.
AARON'S POV:
"She blushed at the closeness, cute. It's crazy Kyla, why do you have so much power over me? So intense that I can't function properly without you, that I can't come to confess what and how I really feel! She ran away... again. Why do you always push me away? Why did you make me your enemy? C'mon Aaron it's today or never! You have to tell her today!"
With that he ran after her.
She was in the garden with gorgeous flowers all around her. She breathed heavily, trying to stop her heart that beated crazily at the nostalgia of him, his touch, the closeness, everything.
KYLA'S POV:
"stop, stop, please stop beating like that for him." she pleaded to her heart. "I always pushed him away, made fun of him, annoyed him even embarrassed him, always, just to keep him away from me. He deserves someone better! I am not good enough for him! He loves....someone else."
After sometime Aaron found her- in the garden, on the swing, looking down playing with her fingers. The sight took his breathe away, like always. He wondered how someone could have so much power over someone that there mere look is like a drop of water to the thirst. He walked over to her preparing himself which probably took all his willpower. He stood in front of her. She looked up shocked to see him. He bend down on his knees, took her hand in his. Tears welled up in his eyes. That was his love flowing through his eyes, he worshiped her but pretended to hate 'cause that's what she had wanted. But today it had to end.
"Why do you hate me Kyla? Is there any way to make you like me? Because I'm ready to do all that it takes to be worthy for you, princess. I need to confess this today that you have the power over me that no one else does. So intense, so limitless, that I worship you princess. I even worship the ground you walk on. Please don't hate me, don't push me away. I... won't be able to live!"She was speechless, speechless at how wrong she was.
"Aaron..." she whispered. " I pushed you away because you love someone else. Don't you?" she looked down at her lap. "You love Princess Lyka..." she whispered, sadness evident in her voice.
His eyes softened, he knew what was going on.... The rumors. He wasn't unknown to them but never bother clearing them either, maybe because they hadn't troubled him, until now.
"Kayla those are rumors, none of those stories are true. Trust me, I know it took me long to understand, long to confess... but I have had my eyes only on you."
She looked at him, tears flowing, swelled with happiness. But there was some hesitation left which had to be cleared. Gathering all her courage she spoke-
"But I don't think I'm... good enough for you." She again whispered.
This time he spoke nothing. She loved him but hesitated because of her own insecurities. He understood that and assumed it to probably also be the reason behind that entire pretense. He took his hand back from hers and stood up. Her heart thumped loudly and she mentally cursed herself for saying that. She saw his footsteps. "He is going away..."
He went back behind her and pushed the swing lightly. She startled.
"Hey! What are you-"
"Swinging the most beautiful girl in the world who has my heart!" He shouted.
"Why are you shouting?!" she yelled, scared that their newly found relationship would be known.
"Because it's important to let them know that you, right here, are so special, so dear to me that I love you like crazy! And you are more than 'good enough' for me. You are more than what I had ever asked for!" He yelled with happiness and love evident in his voice.
Her eyes softened and heart swelled with happiness and pride. That was her man, fearless to admit that she was the woman he loved. He stopped the swing and she got down. Now she was sure that she could rely on him without being insecure because if she will be he was there to console her, comfort her and most importantly love her.
"Then I should confess too right? I love you too Aaron and you deserve to know that you too have the power over me, that's limitless, the power that drives me crazy! Also...I'm sorry for all the stupidity I have done till now." She confessed with a smile lingering on her lips and eyes that had love...just love for him.
"Don't be sorry; let us now not lie to ourselves. Let's give in to this limitless power we have over each other." He smiled warmly which she gladly returned and they hugged warmly snuggling in each other's embrace.
Is this how love feels when confessed? When you give in to the power?
With that people started clapping and cheering with happiness, some even started crying, as the curtains drew. The movie was over. But oh! How they wished for it to come true, to turn out to be real. Little did they not know that it was.... or used to be?
