It's not what it seems.
It's not what it seems?
What? What's not what it seems? What did I do?
Bodie stood stiffy near a wall, tapping his foot, adjusting his glasses and his heart gently beating in his chest. Waiting.
Just waiting.
This ring's working well. I haven't heard a single thought this morning. It's wonderful.
Besides the fact that eating with any utensil was impossible, opening doors resulted in busted handles, and he kept floating uncontrollably, things were looking up.
The lounge was fairly quiet. There were few people around this early in the morning. Maybe they were waiting for their mentors too.
Maimuna wasn't already among the early rising lot, arriving half an hour later.
She calmly walked through the door, composed as ever, as Bodie waved her over.
"Good morning." Bodie said politely.
"Morning, Bodie." She replied. "We have alot of work to do today."
"I see."
Maimuna pulled a neatly folded peice of paper.
"This," She unfolded the paper. "Is our report. You'll get one of these every time you're assigned a mission."
Makes sense. Having prior information is very helpful.
"This doesn't mean you have the opportunity to slack off though. You've still got to do your own research. " She insisted. "So, we've been informed of a mysterious ghost causing havoc in the art rooms."
Bodie's eyes lit up. "Ghosts are real?"
Mainmuna raised an eyebrow. "...Yes? I'm a Spirit Medium, that's why this job's been assigned to me."
"Wait, so you see ghosts?" Bodie asked enthusiastically.
"Yes? It's in the name, 'spirit'?" She shook her head. "Anyways, we're getting off topic. The ghost has been reported splattering paint up the walls and possessing statues there."
"They can posses things too? Nice."
"Focus, Bodie. We need to come up with a plan." She huffed.
"Hold on, I have a question. Can you exorcise ghosts? Are we going to exorcise this one?"
Maimuna flinched, and her mouth was agape, as if Bodie had just slapped her.
"Of course not! Ghosts are just as human as us, you know. They're not monsters like in those shows. And anyway, we don't practice exorcism anymore because it's cruel."
It's cruel? I had no idea.
Bodie's cleared his throat. "So, a plan?"
"Yes. Let's get to work."

The setting sun beamed on the back of Maimuna's neck, the heat radiated off the brick walls of the building, and the sky was inked a pale yellow-blue as the sun just began to set.
She glanced at her watch.
4:20. He should be here by now.
While at the Lounge, the two had planned to separately research more about this ghost, then meet at the end of the day to discuss their findings. Maimuna had found some useful info, and usually she would be analysing it, but her mind was elsewhere.
