❝𝐒𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐄, that us almost getting killed on a bus by a flying bat monster isn't the worse thing yet to happen?❞ Rory said, walking along a trail in the woods in New Jersey with Clarisse by her side.

"Why the hell are their forests in New Jersey?" Rory asked, rubbing her hands against her face as Clarisse just looked at her in amusement.

"That's the life of a demigod. Here, was able to keep this for you." Clarisse said, pulling out a small bag of Lay's Lemon Lime Chips.

Rory just smiled, grabbing the small bag of chips and putting them in her backpack, saying a small thank you as she looked away from the curly haired girl.

Clarisse noticed timid and forced Rory's smile was when she pulled out the bag, seemingly only taking them to be nice about the gesture. And how Rory was quick to avoid eye contact, forcing her brown eyes down to the ground or the background behind Clarisse.

She noticed a lot of things about Rory Jackson, but she took more interest in the things Rory tried to hide.

Both the protectors stopped walking when the three in front of them stopped walking, now taking interest in what they were talking about.

"Why are you so afraid of who you are?" Annabeth asked, looking at Percy with her eyebrows raised.

"What?" Percy asked, a confused expression on his face.

"You know, what's interesting about this particular satyr path is it's actually the one my Uncle Ferdinand took when he set out on his own quest." Grover stated, trying to change the topic before the two started yet another argument.

Thank the gods they didn't have someone on their quest that argued with Percy everytime they opened their mouth.

"What was that supposed to mean, afraid of who I am? I'm not afraid." Percy defended himself.

Rory and Clarisse just looked at the two tweens in front of them, defiantly placing their bets upon the two.

"Yes, you are. You aren't just a kid." Annabeth said, looking straight at Percy.

" "Just a kid" doesn't do what you did to Clarisse back at camp." Clarisse cleared her throat, suppressing a fake cough as everyone glanced at the La Rue girl.

It was one defeat from a newbie, probably was just tuff luck.

" "Just a kid" doesn't have Hades sending top lieutenants to retrieve them. You know, you are a part of something so much bigger than we can understand right now. Both you and your sister. Even if she isn't claimed yet, everyone has the faintest idea of who her parent is." Rory slightly shuffled her feet.

So was Annabeth just calling out everyone now? What next, she was gonna call out Grover because he eats everything he gets his hands on?

"We have to move forward, whether you like it or not, whether you want to or not." Annabeth said.

"You don't want to call camp, fine. Then, at least let's call your mom." Percy suggested, Annabeth looking at him in a way that made him slightly scared.

  "Excuse me?"

"Athen? Your mother. Or Clarisse's dad, Ares?" Rory seemingly had to hold Clarisse slightly back at the mention of the god of war. The topic of him touching a nerve in the girl.

"I'd call my father, but we aren't exactly on speaking terms. You know, because of the life long neglect and emotional abuse and all, but you and your mother seem close. Clarisse is apparently Ares's favorite. So, why don't we ask them for help?" Percy said.
