As we pushed open the door, the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomed us. Sumalubong din sa amin ang ilang mga students na palabas na ng coffee shop, bitbit ang kanilang mga biniling kape. Hindi rin naman ganoon kadami ang tao kaya hindi rin ganoon kahaba ang pila sa counter.
The walls of the coffee shop were painted a calm, inviting shade of beige, decorated with framed photographs of past campus events and different traditional artworks. Warm and soft yellow lights casted a mellow glow all over the place. Gentle strains of acoustic guitar music played softly in the background. Most baristas moved neatly behind the counter, their movements quick as they prepared the orders. The scent of ground coffee beans and fresh milk mingled with the smell of freshly baked pastries made my mouth water.
"Do you guys want to sit there?"
Ibinaling namin ang tingin namin sa kung saan nakaturo ang daliri ni Clara. Ang puwestong sinasabi niya ay iyong malapit sa malaking glass window ng coffee shop.
"I'll go and save those seats for us," pagbo-boluntaryo ni Eloise.
"Ikaw, Corrine? What's your order? Kami na lang ni Clara ang o-order para hindi tayo masyadong marami sa may counter." saad ko.
"If meron silang french vanilla latte, 'yon na lang. I've been craving for that since last week."
"Hi there! Welcome to the Coffee Corner. My name's Miguel. What can I get for you today?" nakangiting salubong sa amin ng barista.
"I'll have a matcha latte, please. You can put Clara in the cup, that's my name." Clara said, smiling back at Miguel.
"Hot or iced?"
"Iced, please."
"Got it. Anything else?" sunod na tanong ni Miguel.
I chimed in, "I'll have one spanish latte for me, Gwyn na lang ang ilagay mo sa cup. And one french vanilla latte, for Corrine. Both iced."
"Anything else?" paninigurado ni Miguel habang ini-input ang aming mga orders sa kanilang POS system.
"All of them are medium sized." dagdag pa ni Clara.
"Noted. Meron pa po ma'am?" muling pagtatanong ni Miguel.
"No, that's it. Thanks." sagot ko naman.
"That'll be six hundred and forty pesos po, ma'am. Cash or card?"
Maglalabas na sana ako ng card pero inunahan na ako ni Clara. Binunot niya sa wallet niya ang card na gagamitin niya pambayad. "Card," iniabot niya kay Miguel ang card at maya-maya lang din ay nai-charge na doon ang total bill namin. "It's okay. You can pay me later in cash na lang." ani Clara nang mapansin niyang nakatingin ako sa kanya bago kumindat.
