Beginning of Story:
"I see you!" The girl squealed as she saw the tip of a boy's foot sticking out from the base of the tree.
The boy behind the tree stayed still. "I see you, Dojin!" The girl called out, approaching the tree.
The boy huffed and stepped out, "You couldn't have walked by?" he pleaded.
The girl shook her head excitedly, "Nope!"
Dojin crossed his arms across his chest and looked at her. "Solha, everywhere I hide, you seem to find me," he whined.
"I'm just like that," the girl flicked her hair behind her shoulders. She then laughed, her white teeth shining beneath her red lips.
"Speaking of which," Dojin said, "can you climb?"
Solha looked at him quizzically, tilting her head. "Why?"
"Cause, I have something you can't do," the boy stuck out his tongue and ran off into the woods.
"You come back here right now!" Solha shouted, chasing after the boy while chuckling to herself for having the best friend.
"Hey!" Solha gasped as her legs slowed down to a walk. "Wait!"
"Why?" Dojin's head popped out from the leaves of a tree in front of Solha. She screamed and fell on the floor.
Dojin hopped down from the tree, laughing.
"Even though you're hard to catch up with, I mean literally, you're still my best friend," Solha laughed, brushing her hands after getting up.
Dojin gave a bright smile that matched the sun which shone above the bright blue sky.
End of Story:
"Sir, please, one of our friends was playing hide and seek, and I think he went inside the building!" A boy shouted, pointing at the smoke-filled abandoned building.
"Hey, Jinseo!" the man in the firefighter's clothes called, "I'm going to go in there to find a boy, you watch the kids!"
Jinseo nodded, "Dojin, be careful in there! The building is unstable because of the fire."
"I will, don't worry!" Dojin called out behind his shoulder as he ran into the building.
"Hey, kiddo! Where are you!" Dojin ran around the buildings, avoiding the flames.
Smoke filled the room, and just as Dojin was about to leave the floor, he found a black sneaker on the ground with no owner in sight.
"Are you in here?" Dojin shouted again, making his way into a room. Inside was a refrigerator, and the firefighter opened the door, finding a boy shivering.
"I'm a firefighter, are you okay?" Dojin asked the boy. The boy just looked at him and nodded.
"Alright, trust me, you're going to be okay," the man said, taking the hand of the boy.
As the two made it to the exit of the floor, the door exploded, fire erupting from inside. Dojin quickly grabbed the boy and ran to the nearest window. After breaking the glass, Dojin called out to Jinseo.
"Jinseo, I'm going to lower the child down!" Dojin wrapped the boy in a rope nearby.
"Are you going to come, too?" the boy asked before being slowly lowered down to the other firefighter on the ground.
"Of course," Dojin reassured him, "I'll be fine." Dojin smiled warmly at the boy, trying to comfort him. It felt right. It felt good to save a life.
The boy safely reached the ground, and Jinseo brought him to his friends. Cries of happiness spread out just when the building started to collapse.
"DOJIN!" Jinseo shouted, running into the building, but it was too late. The explosion blasted Jinseo off of his feet and into the air.
The sound of ambulances arrived at the site.
"Where's Dojin?" Asked a girl in an EMT suit, surveying the wreckage before her.
"Solha, he's..." Jinseo winced, limping towards her.
Tears filled her eyes. "No," her body shook, "No, it can't be. He promised. He promised he would be here for me!" Jinseo patted Solha on the back, not knowing what to say.
"Excuse me, but have you seen the firefighter who saved me?" the boy approached them. "I was told that firefighters were immune to fire." He asked cheerfully. The silence that followed answered his question.
Tears glistened in his eyes. "Why aren't you guys answering me?! Where is he?" he broke into a sob.
Solha looked up at the cloudless sky, her face streamed with tears.
"I see you," she whispered, "right where you should be..."
Author's Note:
The character names are from a kdrama I watched, but I changed the spelling of the names. (I was running out of ideas for names)
I hope you enjoyed it!
Can't believe it's ranked 1 for short writing!
Thank you all who made this happen!! <333
I really don't know what to put in here.... Maybe the shortest author's note ever!
