Grace chuckled. "I don't know who that is. Why would I care who you're fucking? In case you haven't noticed, I'm part of a different pack. Alpha Alaric has tasked me with getting to the truth about some things around here. I can call him if you want." She paused, waiting for another snide remark. "Good. What's your name and age?"

Gritting her teeth, she responded. "Candi Schmidt and I'm twenty-four."

Absorbing this information, Grace sat silently for a few minutes. "Have you searched for your mate?"

"What does that have to do with the pack?" She bristles.

"Answer the question."

"Yes, I did."

"What happened?"

"You don't care, so why are you asking me about this?" Grace heard her voice crack.

"What happened?" She asked softly.

"He was a rogue, ok? The guards caught him and assembled the pack to kill him publicly. He stood tall, looking at the crowd. I think he knew I was there because our eyes locked. My wolf went crazy trying to shift to save him, but seconds later, he was lying on the ground dead. I've never told anyone, I dont know why I told you." Sniffles turned into uncontrollable sobbing. "What made her special? She was a rogue, just like him. Why was she spared while he died?" Anger oozed from her.

"I think you know why. I am sorry to had to witness that."

"That mutt is his mate, isn't she?" A humor less laugh left her lips. "Of course she is. The moon's mistake has a mate, after all. Ironic, huh? I called her mateless when it's actually me."

"We all have demons to deal with." Sighing as this interview took a surprising turn, she kept on. "What do you know about George and Shelly Jones?"

"Betas George and Shelly Jones were killed by their daughter, Heidi. She murdered Luna Opal before Alpha Archer could stop her. He chased her down and executed her."

Rustling noises alerted Grace that Candi got up. "We're not done yet."

"Chill. I'm getting a tissue. How did you know?"

"I have ears."

"I've never met a werewolf that was blind. I went to every social event I could to find, you know."

"I'm the only one I know of that's survived."

That got Candi's attention. "What does that mean?" At the silence, she pressed. "I told you something I've said to no one else."

"Usually, if a wolf loses their sight as adults, it comes back. Unless the eyes are removed. In those instances, the wolf rarely lives. When one is born this way, the parents often decide to terminate it. Mine refused, and I survived."

"I didn't know that."

Grace shrugged. "Not many do, it's not exactly spread about that parents kill their pups because of possible deformities."

"I guess not. I bet my parents would've got rid of me. Yours must be nice."

"My family is the best. I have five older brothers. None of them have treated me with kid gloves. If I fell, I had to pick myself up. Why aren't you friends with Violet?"

"Violet? Uh, because she likes the mutt."

"Did you give her a beating for being nice to her?"

"No, but I heard about it."

"You weren't here when Violet moved in."

"I moved into the packhouse over a year ago, but it was after her. I lived with my sister and her mate for a few years. She's a lucky one. Met her mate a day after she turned twenty-one, and he's from our pack. She got pregnant quickly and had twins. I helped her when I was here."
