I'm going to puke- no I'm not, you're fine- no but seriously, I can't do this, I thought to myself as I stood outside of Bram's, waiting for Joost to show up. My heart was in my throat, and I felt my legs slightly shake under me.
Ever since Thursday, I had been anticipating this day and planning accordingly. What outfit was I going to wear, should I do my hair and makeup, or is that too much, what the fuck am I bringing, and so on and so forth. The conclusion I came to was yes, put on a nice outfit, do your hair, but not too much, and bring your sketchbook to write in. I decided on some flared blue jeans and a tank top that had a fun print on the front. It was simple, but when I looked in the mirror, I thought it was pleasing to the eye. Perfume was a must if we were going to be walking around, I didn't want to sweat and smell awful. Of course, I accessorized with a blue friendship bracelet I made in my free time, a brown belt to add some flavor, and a necklace with a singular crystal pendant hanging off it.
Natalie had just returned from a class when I was getting ready and had to inquire where I was going. I bounded over to her with a stupid grin on my face and showed her the texts between Joost and I. She gasped and we did a celebratory dance around the living room together.
Finally, she hugged me and said, "You're gonna have so much fun, and you get to spend a day with a musician who's possibly at your level dude!"
"Oh, psh, I listened to his music, and I can't write like that," I said, pulling my tote over my shoulder and grabbing my wallet.
"Well, of course you two have different genres of music you focus in, but in terms of how seriously passionate you are about it, I'd say you're right there with him," she shared and put her backpack down she took to class with her, "Now go have fun on your little date-"
"It's not a date-"
"YES, IT ABSOLUTELY IS!" She enthusiastically yelled and proceeded to get me out of the house so I wasn't late.
Hence why, as I stood outside of Bram's, I was 3 quarters of a way to shitting myself. Was this really a date? I mean, this sort of shit happens often where I'm oblivious to someone making a move until I realize 3 months later what was going on... but this is just him trying to be friendly and befriend another musician, yeah. I decided to pull out my phone and scroll around to make it look like I was doing something, but in reality, I was scrolling on my notes app, looking at an old grocery list from a month ago. I could feel my pulse in my neck from how hard my heart beat in my chest.
However, my absent minded scrolling was stopped when I heard my name being called out from afar. I looked up and saw Joost a small distance away from me until he jogged the rest over, the iconic smile he had lying perfectly on his face.
"Hey, y/n, . I'm glad you could make it," he said warmly, giving me a welcoming hug. I had to stand on my toes slightly so my face didn't collide with his shoulder due to his height. When I finally reached him, my head rested on his shoulder, and I could smell that familiar smell that came from his jacket. Oh, I forgot his jacket.
"Hey! Yeah, I was looking forward to this. Um, I just remembered that I forgot your jacket. I was going to bring it back to you, but I got distracted," I shared, smiling sheepishly.
He smiled slightly and waved his hands, "Ah, it's okay, you can keep it. My closet is getting quite full anyway."
As he said that, I looked at what he was wearing. From the times I have seen him, he always seems to have a consistent style. Today, he wore the same black framed glasses, a clear staple of his-does he need glasses?- a black button-up shirt that was open to show the wife-beater he wore underneath, and some blue levis that seemed to fit him better than the other pants he's worn. To top it off, literally, he wore a black baseball hat and a filled bag of his own.
